Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?

I personally would like to take a neutral stance against this man. I don%26#039;t know much about what he%26#039;s doing. All I know is that my dad can%26#039;t watch an ounce of the news without getting pissed off at him.

And no I am not a democrat or republican as I am only 16. Personally I think both parties are absolutely ridiculous. Anyway, I just want to know what you guys think since I%26#039;m pretty clueless to all that%26#039;s going on.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?Sorry, But he has degraded America to other nations. He seems to be a Socialist, that is going to finish selling America Out.

He has spent so much, that you and your children and childrens%26#039; children will never get this off the books..

As with our previous presidents, he also, is so smart he doesn%26#039;t have a clue. So he can%26#039;t be given all the blame, there is plenty to go back to.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better? At 16, I would suggest you enjoy being clueless for a couple of years.

Finding more out about this is just going to depress you.

Chill out and have some fun.

When the time comes for you to pick a political party, if you must, check this one out.

http://www.americanmoderatepoliticalpartPoll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better? He is screwing up the US big time! But he did promise change didn%26#039;t he? .... He just failed to tell everyone that it wouldn%26#039;t be a change for the better....Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?messing upPoll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?President Obama inherited two never-ending wars that have cost millions in blood and trillions in treasure (your Mom and Dad%26#039;s tax dollars at work to fund no-bid contracts to VP Cheney%26#039;s former company) and the most disastrous financial crisis since the Great Depression. Considering the challenges the new President faces, he is making every attempt to rectify the failures of the last administration and Republican Congressional control from 1994-2007. Obama has only been in office for 6 months, and our problems essentially began in the early 1980%26#039;s under Reagan and his massive deregulation policies. Bush promoted these policies without regard to their effects which is the reason the country is in dire straits.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?Changing America for the Better. I%26#039;d personally like to see him go further and faster, particularly on health care. Overall, he%26#039;s got America moving in the right direction.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?He%26#039;s doing so great that I plan on quitting my job and letting the government take care of me from now on. The Obama will make sure that I am fed, clothed, have a house, and a car. He%26#039;s the best president ever.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?Changing America for the worst.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?First since you%26#039;re going to be able to vote pretty soon I%26#039;d like to encourage you to study up on both sides of the issues to figure out where you stand on them. Part of why we%26#039;re facing Obama%26#039;s failures right now is because of people who just went based on what their friends told them without researching for themselves.

Regardless of what people tell you, here is what Obama has done so far since taking office:

- Passed the Stimulus package which is a massive amount of spending that has already been more spending than any US president combined. It has put us in the trillions of dollars in debt that will take my generations great grandchildren to pay off. Every major economist has said it has failed. Joe Biden admitted that the administration underestimated the economic crisis. The exact policies that Obama has been issuing out are the very reasons why California finds itself bankrupt now. They continued to spend enormously and couldn%26#039;t sustain it. The same thing applies for us, if we continue to spend like we are we will end up like California.

- Promised to shut down Guantanamo as well as not hold any terrorist indefinitely, as well as pulling out of Iraq immediately. So far, he has backed out of all those promises

- Cap and trade bill that Obama is pushing will end up raising taxes as well as killing many small business owners, keep in mind that small businesses account for 70% of the nation%26#039;s job creation.

- He%26#039;s promised to cut back on missile defense, at a time when North Korea and Iran are both issuing major threats to our country

- When the protesters in Iran were being burnt alive and thrown off of bridges while they were trying to gain freedoms from Ahmedinejad, and we know that because they were holding up signs in English and although the news organizations were restricted from posting the horrific crimes that Ahmedinejad was allowing against his own people, Barack%26#039;s simple response is %26quot;I%26#039;m appalled.%26quot; at a time when what was needed was a strong stance against terrorism.

- His future goal is to adopt more European Socialism meaning more government control as well as redistributing the wealth and sharing people%26#039;s money with each other. The problem with that is that it means that hard working Americans lose their hard earned money to someone else against their will, and people start to gain the destructive habit of co-dependence on another human being for their survival. You must teach them how to succeed for themselves without having to leech off of others for success or money, because that%26#039;s the only fair thing to do for all Americans.

I didn%26#039;t agree with everything that Bush did, but I will tell you that any fair minded individual that looks beyond all bias, and actually looks to the facts they will see that we can%26#039;t continue down this path. Obama may be extraordinarily popular but the president of the United States is meant for a commander-in-chief that can do the best job as well as inspire Americans to be the best. Obama is failing so far.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?Barack Obama has broken so many campaign promises..... anyone who SAYS they support Obama needs to be asked this question.....

WHICH Obama did you vote for?

On Day 15, Obama/Soetoro signed a %26quot;stimulus plan%26quot; (another broken campaign promise) that TRIPLED and now QUADRUPLED the %26quot;terrible deficit%26quot; he got from the Bush Administration. NO MORE complaining about Bush.... Obama took something BAD and made it THREE TIMES WORSE.

Obama has repeated the policy moves of FDR... which EVERY economist and historian agrees EXTENDED the Great Depression by a MINIMUM of 7 years. Now as we see Unemployment approach 10% (a 32 year high)... and the value of the dollar shrink.... and our biggest employers declaring bankruptcy..... and GOVERNMENT claiming %26quot;ownership%26quot; over private companies..... no one with a functioning brain can defend the FAILED and FAILING policies of America%26#039;s least qualified and least experienced President.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?Your dad is right ! I feel the same, he is really screwing things up! Your generation will pay dearly for the messes he is making , which is probably one of the reasons your dad gets mad! along with the fact that he is making retirement something most of us can no longer look forward to as the golden years !Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?screwing up AmericaPoll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better? He is certainly changing America. However, I do not believe it is for the better.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?Interesting that the results of this thread tilt heavily towards %26quot;he%26#039;s screwing up%26quot; while most of the nation-wide polls say most Americans think he%26#039;s doing just fine. That suggests the population of Yahoo Answers is not representative of the poulation of the US as a whole. That would be an interesting study.

Anyway, here%26#039;s a little quiz that will help you determine which %26quot;side%26quot; fits you better. Select the answer (A or B) that most closely resembles your opinion:

1) Regarding the environment:

A) Global warming is no big deal if it even exists at all, and environmental laws against it constrain business too much.

B) Global warming is a big problem that we have to address, and environmental laws against it will save us money in the long term.

2) Regarding homosexuality:

A) People who choose to be gay are a menace to traditional families. Society should do everything it can to make sure more people live normal lives.

B) Gays deserve the same rights as everyone else. Society should accept them as different, but not worse.

3) Regarding health care:

A) Any government intervention in health care would undermine the free market and make care worse for everyone who already has insurance.

B) The government should make sure that all Americans have access to health care, even if they can%26#039;t pay for insurance.

4) Regarding foreign policy:

A) The US is the strongest nation in the world. We should act like it. Any time we let another country show us up that undermines our position as world leaders.

B ) The US is the strongest nation in the world, but it%26#039;s not like the rest of the world doesn%26#039;t have its own priorities. Any time we shut other countries out of the decision making process they take us less seriously as world leaders.

5) Regarding taxes:

A) The world would be better if everyone got to keep more of their money for themselves.

B) Taxes are necessary because there are some things everybody needs that only the government can provide.

6) Regarding religion:

A) The US should be a Christian nation. God%26#039;s law reigns above all.

B) The US should be a secular nation. Religious dogma has no place in good government.

... If you answered mostly A, then you identify more with Republicans and probably think Obama is doing a terrible job. If you answered mostly B, then you identify more with Democrats and probably think Obama is doing great.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?Well you need to get off the fence. Voter apathy and indifference is what got this country in the mess it%26#039;s in. You need to watch the news, both local and national, listen to talk radio, read the newspaper, and check out online news sites. So instead of taking a poll to know what other people think, you can decide for yourself.

But if you want my opinion I think Obama just got a wake up call that this president thing won%26#039;t be as easy as he thought. He%26#039;s spent us into a bigger hole, kowtowed to every third world dictator, pushed a socialist agenda and we%26#039;re no better off than we were under Bush. The government needs to wake up and start acting responsible.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?Thank you, asking is how to learn. I%26#039;m an independent who believes that you cannot spend yourself out of debt and that is what he is doing putting you and your future in doubt for a few social programs is not a good thing to do. Being 64 his decisions do not effect me as much as they will you. You%26#039;re the one who will be paying for all the borrowing he is doing. PeacePoll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?Changing America for the Better. I think his poll numbers are going to continue to down for awhile until the changes start taking affect. After that I think they%26#039;ll go back up.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?Obama is putting America back to the way it was before Bush got in office. Most people realized that the country had been changed in a bad way. We lost diplomacy, consumer protection, environmental or even national park support, business went haywire from lack of supervision...

It is a long road back - it took a long time to break down.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?He%26#039;s doing good. He%26#039;s better than any Republican president we%26#039;ve ever had.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? Or Changing America for the Better?Tell your Dad to calm down. Ask him if he thinks he can do a better job. Barack has to deal with the worst recession since the Great Depression and deal with 2 wars that Bush left him.Poll: Obama - Screwing Up? • In what way would America change if we became a Socialist country like Sweden? I spent the summer there, ?

and people seem happy enough, so why would it be wrong for us to change into being a Socialist??

I am not saying I am for it, just want to know the difference in our way of life!In what way would America change if we became a Socialist country like Sweden? I spent the summer there, ?Wow, all of you people are full of irrational fears. 60-70% taxes? Are you kidding me? Massive redistribution of wealth? What?

Anyway, I'm studying abroad in Germany right now, and I can tell you that while it is a socialist country, things aren't that much different than in the US. Yes, taxes ARE higher, BUT it evens out because people don't have to put out so much money for things like health insurance.

There are of course poor people who barely make it by, but I can tell you that there are plenty of really rich people here and cruise around in their Mercedes SLR and shop at places I could never imagine affording. Socialist doesn't mean at all that everyone has the same amount of money - what it does try to do, is make sure that people don't simply get screwed over by the system.

If there is anything wrong with the system here, it's that there are too many people growing older and there won't be enough money in the future for them to live on after they retire, but guess what, we have EXACTLY the same problem with Social Security.

Of the four main %26quot;socialist%26quot; programs here in Germany, the US has their own version of three of them already. In the US there is already cheap health insurance if your family is poor (BluePlus in MN), unemployment benefits are built in to the system, and Social Security once you retire. If you don't like socialism, maybe we should get rid of those programs in the US.In what way would America change if we became a Socialist country like Sweden? I spent the summer there, ?We would all be equally poor. We would all fit into one of two categories, Employees of the State or Wards of the State. In what way would America change if we became a Socialist country like Sweden? I spent the summer there, ?Do you have a job? Do you pay taxes? Would you like to pay 60 to 70 percent of your income in taxes? If not, think about it.In what way would America change if we became a Socialist country like Sweden? I spent the summer there, ?It would be just like the old Soviet Union. America is to corrupt and to greedy to ever be true socialist, besides Socialism is just suppossed to be a pit stop until communism takes overIn what way would America change if we became a Socialist country like Sweden? I spent the summer there, ?America would fail. Too many lazy people and too much stuff. In what way would America change if we became a Socialist country like Sweden? I spent the summer there, ?You can be happy in any situation if you have the positive mindset to always allow the best of your emotions to shine through the dark times. However, as others have probably already mentioned, the standard of living will go down making us all equally poor, or reliant on the government, since that's who you work for. You wouldn't have the freedoms that you do now, you'd be considered government property in a sense.

    EDIT to your additional details:

We would all continue to pay taxes, however it would be much more than we pay now and it would be redistributed so everyone is equally classed. I guess if you are okay with everyone being the same in terms of living standards, regardless of how hard you work compared to others, then I guess you could be happy. It's almost like the entire country would be part of a government union (obviously not exactly, just an example of the sort). In what way would America change if we became a Socialist country like Sweden? I spent the summer there, ?It's pretty easy to find political harmony in a country of what, 10 million people? Even more so when they all look and sound alike. In what way would America change if we became a Socialist country like Sweden? I spent the summer there, ?I know a few people who left Sweden. Its not as pretty as it is reported in the papers.

Socialism does not work. It never has. Sweds are scared to death of their government. Ask someone who really lives there or lived there. Also there is an huge list of Scandinavian applicants seeking U.S. citizenship- and I doubt it has much to do with the weather. In what way would America change if we became a Socialist country like Sweden? I spent the summer there, ?No offense but, if I have to explain it to you then you need to do research....how many people do you see in America walking the streets who may appear on the surface to be happy of care free but, do you really know the struggles that they have in their lives. You should have spoken to the people there and got the voice from the man on the street...In what way would America change if we became a Socialist country like Sweden? I spent the summer there, ?Sweden is not really a socialist country. Rather, it is a free-market democracy just like the U.S., but with a larger public sector, higher income taxes and a more generous unemployment welfare system.

The current government is centre-right with policies somewhere close to the middle of the U.S. political spectrum - a mix of the more liberal parts of the U.S. Republican agenda and the more conservative / market friendly groups of the Democrats.

When comparing the two systems, please bear in mind that in many European countries, more services are paid for through your income and capital gains tax. Although an American family often pays less in direct income tax than a European family does, the American family has to pay for many services that are free in Europe - tuition fees for the kids to go to university and medical insurance for example.

Therefore, the standard of living in Sweden and the U.S. is quite similar (at least that is my impression after having spent time in both countries).

Key differences between the U.S. and Sweden is that healthcare and tuition in Sweden is basically free (or rather, paid for indirectly through taxes instead of directly through fees) and that you are pretty well taken care of if you lose your job. The obvious downside of this is that taxes must be higher to finance a larger public sector.

Critics of the system point out that is unfair that hard working people do not get to keep more of what they earn and that this removes individual incentives to work and invest. Supporters on the other hand argue that universal access to healthcare, tuition and generous unemployment benefits bring more benefits than disadvantages.

It is a complex question and there are many more pros and cons than the few ones I have listed above. However, the differences between the U.S. and Sweden are actually a smaller and fewer than one might think at first.

Countries that are culturally similar to the U.S. but politically more similar to Sweden are Canada and Australia - they might give you a hint of what the U.S. would look like with more European-like policies.

When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?

HANDOUT, the collective and govt. control over more and more aspects of our lives?

Any honest study of history shows what we once were and what we have become.

Are the liberal schools to blame?

WHEN will we come to regret handing over so much authority over our lives to the govt? When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the? When politicians learned they could buy votes with new entitlement programs, and people forgot that they have to steal from someone else to provide these unconstitutional social programs. The constitution says that government is to promote the general welfare, not provide it.

The difference is government is only allowed to encourage people and organizations to help less fortunate people, instead they steal from everyone to provide for those who are unwilling to provide for themselves. When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?The liberal school systems which provides inadequate amounts of knowledge is one concept we can pin the blame. Also, the liberal media, which glorifies all aspects of liberalism and attempts to shove it down the American publics' throats. Now I'm going do a 180 here and say the last thing to blame are conservatives who do nothing but complain about the liberals disregard of individual freedom. If you don't like how your government is behaving, then do something about it.When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?I regret it now. 2010 elections are huge in the fight to get our country back from this socialist takeover of our lives. Im not saying to vote for reps, but better yet to vote for every true conservative on the ballot even if the candidate is dem. We are an inch away from actually becoming a socialist state. Not to overreact, but the truth is,(look back in history) this is exactly how hitler took over germany, not by force but from within. Dont be afraid to express this sentiment because it is true. More people that realizes this the better chace we have to stopping this administrationWhen Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?Not to overreact, but the truth is,(look back in history) this is exactly how hitler took over germany, not by force but from within. Dont be afraid to express this sentiment because it is true

You cons like to use hitler name quite often I think many of you would have served him well, but for history sake this is not and has nothing to do with how hitler took power in germany, You may think your reading a history book but it some con fiction propaganda.

I still have my freedoms what freedoms have you cons lost under President Obama? HUM? No laws were changed buy him, so what freedoms have you lost? HUM?So you have to buy health insurance, I thought most of you hard working cons have insurance, so nothing changes you keep you insurance. So what freedoms have you lost? HUM?When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?I think that the hard work of our fore fathers have brought us to our current state of politics. It's hard to explain it in detail but I remember this quote from the movie %26quot;The Aviator%26quot; that sums it up perfectly. When Hughes goes to dinner at his girlfriend Hepburns house her mom says %26quot;We're all socialists here.%26quot; He replies %26quot;That's because you've always had money.%26quot; So, I think its easier to be a nanny state when most the people in it have never really had to work for what they have. Did our generation grow up without a car, electricity, running water, telephones, etc? No. The generations of yesteryear did not have those luxuries and had to work for everything they had so they believed in a working dollar. America had golden years after WW2 and the generation that is now in control grew up with the luxuries of life already there so it is easier to think everyone else should have the same when they didn't necessarily have to work for it themselves. When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the? This is our last stand. Freedom can't be maintained through pacifism. It is claimed and maintained by vigorous assertion. Remember; %26quot;Home of the BRAVE.%26quot; No Brave: No freedom! The question our generation must answer: Do we process the bravery of American patriots of past generations who claimed and maintained the freedom given by their Creator, or have we been conditioned by big government propaganda to passively surrender our freedoms forgetting there pricelessness? When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?I already regret it and try at every turn not to hand over my life to the government or anyone else for that matter. Personal Responsibility.

To me the slippery slope towards the 'handout' became a landslide during the New Deal in the 1930's.When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?wow i'm impressed with you. what a thinker you are .i'm with you lets go back to the good old days when we could hang people just because they didn't do what we want ,or the wrong skin color or what have you .think about it , we had to make these rules to stop people like you .thanks for askingWhen Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?Its the democrat's organized corrupting of our country!!When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the? When the Free market failed us during the great depression and hoover decided to use charity rather than programs to help out the middle classWhen Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?definitely turning to the land of the entitled...where people demand something while contributing

nothing!!!When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?We have more freedom for honest people now than ever be for, thanks to democrats. When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?Times change, it's as simple as that. We don't live in the 20th century anymore. When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?It started in the 1930's with FDR (shortly after women were given the right to vote). When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?what you tired of the change already? When Did America Change From a Land of Self Reliance, Capitalism and Individual Freedom to the Land of the?First off a liberal school has nothing to do with being liberal in a political sense, liberal means progressive or having the ability to adapt which is what a liberal education gives people. Many great philosophers of the 1700s who directly influenced our founding fathers believed that a free liberal education was the key to a nation becoming a free state.

With that said our government has been attempting to control business by %26quot;throwing money%26quot; around since the 1870s. A prime example is railroads. The government tends to step in when ever business key to the economy are about to fail. Railroads in the 1800's; heavy industry, banks, and real-estate in the 1930s(sound fimailar); during the 1950s the only reason our economy boomed was because of the goverments insitence to rebuild Europe; today the banks, housing market, and a lack of industry outside defense and poorly built cars expensive cars has caused another fall of our market. Once again the government under George Bush stepped in, today this intervention continues.

As we have never been a true capitalist state(state and federal money has always been used to regulate business in this country) if we suddenly decided to become a true free market our economy will completely collapse because the government made floor that prevents total failure of our economy will be gone. If you think we are in bad shape now because of our socialized economy with a republican government in control wait and see what happens when we change. Look at Russia they institute a free market into a communist state and they have been living with corruption and poverty ever since. We shouldn't change what isn't broken.

Yes clearly there are problems and we must change them, things that hurt our civil liberties IE pat act, wars with no end that consume billions of taxes dollars while giving the oil industry cheaper oil but not lowering the price, and corruption with in the government, just to name a few. These are things that need to be changed by electing third party not some civil war that will surely be crushed by the most powerful military force the world has ever known.

Please excuse any spelling a grammar eras as I'm very hung over and it is very early.

Republicans and the changing of America?

The United States is going through one of its most important demographic changes in its history. Hispanic immigrants, legal and illegal, has much to do with this along with other groups such as Indians and East Asians migrating into the country. How will the Republicans adopt to this? Will the Republican Party eventually reflect the diversity of the country?Republicans and the changing of America? In the end, it's all about numbers.

I think that for Republicans, it's damned if you do and damned if you don't. If they attempt to be more inclusive then they will loose the republican base. If they remain the same then they will be increasingly outnumbered each election cycle.

I'm not saying that all republicans are racist, but I do think that racists are 99% more likely to join the Republican party.

I think that a more likely scenerio will be that the republican party will split into 2 parties and a 3rd party will eventually take the place of the republican party.

I think there are many minorities who like some of the republican ideas but who are turned off by the whole cowboy hat/confederate flag thing.

the bottom line is that if they change too much they will lose the base and if they don't change enough they will not have the numbers needed to carry the swing states.Republicans and the changing of America?Starting with Bobby Jindal.. duh?

That's enough diversity.Republicans and the changing of America? There will always be biggots on both sides. The best hope for the GOP is to rediscover true conservatism like Ron Paul.Republicans and the changing of America?I love it.

We are watching our beloved land turn into a third world country.

Woooo.... isn't this great?Republicans and the changing of America? Those who are looking for handouts and a nanny will go to the Dems. Those who are responsible and adult will go to the Republicans.Republicans and the changing of America?Vote Ron Paul in 2012!Republicans and the changing of America?Isn't it wonderful, the main accomplishment we want is lots of illegal aliens, we make them dependent on government programs, give them amnesty and whamo, a guaranteed voting block for us Dems, what will eventually happen is we will have a one party system so the Repubs don't have to adjust to anything. Wonderful strategy huh.Republicans and the changing of America? If you mean to hand out free money from the Government, then no. How do you think that the Democratic party maintains all these minority groups? How do these people typically vote? That's right, on the side that gives them the most. Democrats have kept these minorities reliant on the Government for so long, that they could not even make it on their own. How backwards is it that the Republican party has been given that %26quot;racist%26quot; label? Just because the DNC is full of every minority group in the country, doesn't mean that it's not racist. It means that they are being controlled by a small group of white Democrats in DC...almost like slavery. It will be hard to keep them uneducated now that they let one be president though...good luck with that one.Republicans and the changing of America?Osama is a tree hugging liberal who bows to the enemies. Embarrassing!Republicans and the changing of America?I think that you'll see the Republican party split into two separate parties: the %26quot;John McCain circa 2004%26quot; party that is fiscally conservative but socially moderate, and the %26quot;Sarah Palin%26quot; party which is very socially conservative and really grounded in religious fundamentalism.

Both parties would each steal a lot of voters who are currently Democrats: fiscal conservatism has broad appeal, as does religious fanaticism.

Ultimately I think we'd be better off with that three-party system; neither the GOP nor the Dems really reflects my personal views very well these days.Republicans and the changing of America? We are being invaded and we get to pick up the bill. Doubt if the Reps will ever be with you on that one.Republicans and the changing of America?America was never meant to be %26quot;diverse%26quot;. America is the great melting pot and all should become Americans.Republicans and the changing of America?Republicans are incapable of grasping the concept of %26quot;change.%26quot; As long as whatever it is, be it war, pestilence or famine, which makes money for rich old white people, Republicans are all for it. This is the party that gave us two *****:Nixon and Cheney. This is the party that gave us Hoover and the Great Depression. and the oily-haired Alzheimers president who bankrupted the country. And lets not forget the retarded monkey who left office,(thank God) on January 20th.Republicans and the changing of America?I doubt it.

If they do not go back to being conservative they will be gone.Republicans and the changing of America?Depends on what you see as diversity. If what you mean by representing the diversity of the country is supporting the murder of the unborn and redefining marriage to adapt to someones perverted behavior. No, don't expect that anytime soon. God bless.Republicans and the changing of America? The Republican party has always been the party of true diversity. We don't care who you are as long as you can pull yourself up by your own bootstraps and stand on your own two feet. It has always been the Democratic party that has worked to enslave the people of this country through racial and economic divides and class envy and warfare. Of course with the major media as their allies, the democratic party has been very successful in making the soundbite generation think they are the cat's meow.Republicans and the changing of America?Look at those answers. America may be changing but the republican party isn't so it's going to be a pretty big stretch for the republicans to represent the diversity of America.

If the republican party refuses to evolve as the country does, they will become even further removed from gaining power again.Republicans and the changing of America? The republican party likes all races if they believe in having values.

The republican party has more than just white males in it's ranks.Republicans and the changing of America?Wow! I just know what you mean. I just caught Obama giving a commercial in Spanish! I was totaly impressed. I know a bit of Spanish from high school, enough to know when he greeted brother Hugo Chavez it was with como estas.

The Republicans want to STOP the changing of America.Republicans and the changing of America? What do you mean how will republicans handle this change? Just like the democrats, or the independents, or any of the others.Republicans and the changing of America? Why ask only how the Republicans will adapt to this. Why not ask How will the libs %26amp; Demos adapt ? There' s more than Republicans who reside in America.Republicans and the changing of America?I certainly hope so, but in all honesty (and I am not a Republican so don't take this as crying), from what I have seen, the great majority of people coming in from other countries are not here to benefit us...but to benefit themselves....and from a social standpoint, liberal government leaders are much more prone to providing social and financial programs than are the conservatives. Conservatives expect people to do what they need to do to provide for themselves for the most part....although there are exceptions to that tendency. But, either way, until every American who wants to work...is working at a decent paying job...I would prefer that NO ONE be allowed to immigrate (even legally) to this country unless coming to live with and be supported by a family member.Republicans and the changing of America? The Republican party is out of touch with the people and their needs. Eventually they will fade away and a new party will be formed which is more in tune with people, both foreign and domestic.Republicans and the changing of America? The same as we always have. Not only do republicans have to deal with the illegal desirables that are crossing our borders daily and consider it their job to breed as many offspring as possible; the democrats, independents and libertarians also have to deal with this. Get your head out of your @ss and stop looking at the world with rose colored glasses. These people are destroying the United States, NOT helping us.Republicans and the changing of America?FROM WHAT I HEARD, REPUBLICANS ARE ALWAY OPPOSES TO CHANGE AND PROGRESS, SO WHY NOT STAY CONSERVATIVE AND IGNORANT

Could America change every representative in Congress and START OVER?

America, it is time to OVERHAUL our CONGRESS!!! DO NOT VOTE the same person into Congress again. Our Congress has become too corrupt. Good people go to Washington and get corrupted. Congress needs a COMPLETE CHANGE. It is not the President of the US, it is CONGRESS!!!

http://capwiz.com/afanet/dbq/officials/ Could America change every representative in Congress and START OVER?Yeah... But right now, Maryland's 5th District is not ready to let go of Steny Hoyer, nor is California's 8th District ready to let go of Nancy Pelosi, and I highly doubt that Ohio's 8th District is inclined the least to get rid of John Boehner.

We could have a Congressional Clearinghouse, but that is close to impossible given the Political Nature of each and every district.Could America change every representative in Congress and START OVER?As much as I would like to see a clean slate, it isn't likely to happen. The system is set up to support the incumbent. Could America change every representative in Congress and START OVER?Yes. Will we, no.Could America change every representative in Congress and START OVER?WHY DON'T WE GO THE EXTRA MILE AND SIMPLY ABOLISH THE GOVERNMENT ALTOGETHER. WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY TO DO THAT. THE SAME WITH VOTING. OREGON HAS A TOTAL MAIL IN SYSTEM. COMPANIES ARE THINNING OUT THEIR BLOATED BUREAUCRACIES WHY NOT THE GOVERNMENT TOO. WE MIGHT EVEN BE ABLE TO BALANCE THE BUDGET.

Do you think America changed ever since World War 1, 2 and 9 11?

If so how? This is not homework I just want to know what yous think.Do you think America changed ever since World War 1, 2 and 9 11?yes we have changed but we have to learn again to change abit more. we need not be socialists or communist to be in this country we need to be free and find out how to win this thing with medical which we are struggling for.Do you think America changed ever since World War 1, 2 and 9 11?um. yeah.

we got bigger guns and can make bigger 'splosions.Do you think America changed ever since World War 1, 2 and 9 11?Jazz came after WW 1

    Rock came after WW 2

Lady Gaga came after 9/11Do you think America changed ever since World War 1, 2 and 9 11?Yes, it has changed drastically.Do you think America changed ever since World War 1, 2 and 9 11?WW1 and WW2 were legit wars, and as such the line in the sand was a clear one, thus the people banded together as one.

9/11 is not so cut and dried, and because of the insidious way it came about, people are frightened, and don't know who to trust.Do you think America changed ever since World War 1, 2 and 9 11?It has been the same people in charges, all that time, that is the bankers and military industrialists.

The change is that they are growing both greedier and bolder.

They have control of our opinions to such an extent they can make us think we're living in some sort of decent world where we call the shots, when we, the people, have really lost our voice, and are asked to believe preposterous lies.

http://www.livevideo.com/video/6AD237571Do you think America changed ever since World War 1, 2 and 9 11?Yes, Naturally. We have defenitley stepped up security since 9/11. WW1 and WW2 affected our country as well.. look at Pearl Harbor!Do you think America changed ever since World War 1, 2 and 9 11?yes we are less hopeful, more cynical and self absorbed. 911 briefly brought out caring for our fellow americans, but unless they're affected directly most people just don't care

  • Poll: how do you think the legal immigration is changing america?

It is making her stronger and more competitive. Legal immigration has stringent requirements and only the resourceful and those who can benefit the country are allowed in.Poll: how do you think the legal immigration is changing america? We are spending billions of tax dollars yearly on those who aren't citizens. They pay some taxes through sales and gas and the like, but not nearly enough to cover their burden. The illegals that work off the books are taking away potential income from citizens who would spend a lot more of that money in America instead of sending so much out of the country. And since they work off the books, that is more tax money not being collected that should be collected. There are a lot of criminals who would not be here if we had somehow stopped illegal immigration. Maybe not a large percentage of those who are here, but they still exist where they should not. If it is this easy to illegally enter our country, we are at more risk from terrorists who can come in the same way.Poll: how do you think the legal immigration is changing america?More Latina women herePoll: how do you think the legal immigration is changing america?I think a lot of people automatically think immigration and think illegal status kind. I think it hasn't changed much at all. I don't think there is as many people coming here since the job opportunities are becoming really low. I mean finding a job has become much harder now.Poll: how do you think the legal immigration is changing america? It is making her stronger and more competitive. Actually, Immigration has been so lax for so many years now, they were tossing the rules and allowing people in without any formal knowledge of English and History. That sort of abuse has been across the field and the general educational level of the immigrants has declined with their educational level falling to something below the high school level.

It sounds like nothing? More and more frequently, they must turn to welfare for life as they are removed from their jobs as those jobs grow, or change. Far to much of this has been the reflection of party politics and things could get very ugly in a few years as the people without educations demand their piece of the pie.

How will America change once Obama is in Office? ?

Im just really curious what people think will happen once Obama is president? what exactly will obama do to change america? you dont have to give tell me everything. Tell me one policy obama plans to implement that is different from McCain and Bush and how that will change life in america? How will America change once Obama is in Office? ?It won't change. Neither will it change with McCain in office.

This idea of change, reform, revival is as old as the hills.

Politicicans eagerly get in office, and they immediately set about maintaining the status quo. Just like cops. They take care of their own.

The government takes care of the government. That's all.How will America change once Obama is in Office? ?He will make health care available for ALL Americans - that would make a huge change in the everyday lives of people that aren't insured right now.How will America change once Obama is in Office? ?Have you read about what the healthcare for all American's will do?? That is the WORST thing that he can do. Have you ever had healthcare just from the state? The government will be even worse. Stating which medications you can and cannot take even if you need it to live, dictating what procedures you will be able to have and saying which surgical procedures are actually %26quot;necessary%26quot;. This is just a start to the mess that he will create. I am a working mom and it costs me a small fortune every month for healthcare, but at least I know that when I need something I can get it and its not going to be dictated by the government. When my son and I were on the state health care I ended up in the hospital over a dozen times before they would approve a medication that I needed. Is this what we want for all Americans? I think not.How will America change once Obama is in Office? ?He will make it possible for the 48 million of Americans who are not insured to afford health insurance. Most families who declare bankruptcy do so because of high health care costs. He will also bring our troops back from Iraq. He will restore America's image around the world. I know some people think that's not important but America can't rule the World all by itself. We need allies. And he has the temperament and judgment to get us out this economic crisis that McCain and Bush/Cheney got us in. Currently the Dow is at -555. People are Sh***ting in their pants. I work for a big financial firm and I am afraid am gonna get laid off. In the coming days more banks will fall.

This no joke people. This not the time for %26quot;Joe Six Pack%26quot; trust me.

How has america changed since sept 11th?

Thousands of men and women dead in a conflict overseas.

Thousands wounded and injured of of our country and the Native Americans have a 7 generation rule...any decision will be with you for seven years.

We have families that will be living with ptsd, tbi, and other injuries/wounds that will carry on for generations.

    Airline travel is different,

The way cultures are viewed is different.

We were attacked on homeland soil...

We have men and women that are dying because of the toxicity of the towers and sight...cancers, etc.

We lost trust in our presidency, etc. again...

How can I change America for the Better?

What kinda schooling do I need to be able to get into a postion to start changing some things in this country and especially in the military? I'm willing to do whatever it takes, I'm so motivated and fed up! Is there any other secrets I need to know? How can I change America for the Better?Read, study, discuss and teach classical Greek literature, starting from Homer's Iliad!

Is this another reason for changing America's stupid gun laws?

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100213/ap_o

Yet another campus shooting .How many more have to die before America rids itself of its %26quot;right to bear arms%26quot;Is this another reason for changing America's stupid gun laws?I wouldn't be surprised if since you wrote this, 3 people have died from guns elsewhere in the USA.

because I believe there are 30,000 gun deaths per year there. Is this another reason for changing America's stupid gun laws?without the right to bear arms we have no other rights. try looking up the reason why it is enshrined in the constitution.

this incident is called problem-reaction-solution. the us govt has been doing mind control experiments for a long time (look it up), and people like this have been %26quot;programmed%26quot; to kill people so that the sheep will react the same way you do %26quot;please take our guns--please take the only protection we have against tyranny%26quot;. seriously, if you like being defenseless go to europe. i lived there for years and was disgusted by how weak and pathetic they are. you would fit in well.Is this another reason for changing America's stupid gun laws?no its not-people get killed in cars everyday should we ban those too ?Is this another reason for changing America's stupid gun laws?if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.Is this another reason for changing America's stupid gun laws? The gun laws are not stupid but the last defense against terrorism. What the necessary is that gun users must pass some kinds of emotional intelligent test.Is this another reason for changing America's stupid gun laws? It's necessary to maintain our freedom. Like letting the morons who elected this administration have the right to vote. Do some reading (Federalist Papers) and learn why the founding fathers created this most crucial of the checks and balances in our government. We have to suffer people %26quot;acting stupidly%26quot; if we want to maintain democracy. Think of this: If some of the other people in the room had the ability to protect themselves, this woman may have decided that going into that room with evil intent wasn't such a good idea. She knew they didn't because people like you make the rules at UAH and deprive them of the right to defend themselves. Maybe that's what needs to be changed. Is this another reason for changing America's stupid gun laws?I will not become a slave. I enjoy my freedom and have a right to own a gun, many guns, lots of guns, a ton of guns.....I have yet to use one to kill anyone. Your idea of stupid is another man's smarts. How many cars will you take away when a drunk driver kills some one? That's what I thought! Is this another reason for changing America's stupid gun laws?America is happy to people die. It will never change. Is this another reason for changing America's stupid gun laws?It has done wonders for countries without the right to bear arms.Is this another reason for changing America's stupid gun laws?I don't know the actual figure but thousands die from gunshot wounds every year. After 9/11 the US invaded Iraq and Afghanistan in retaliation. There are many more that die every year from gunshot woundsIs this another reason for changing America's stupid gun laws?My idea is this, gun control is for the people that wouldn't abuse guns anyway. Crooks will find a way to get a gun if they really want to.

  • Your opinion should America change their measurement system?

In your opinon, should the United States convert to the Metric System for ALL its measurements (not only science based measurement)?

And please give me examples why it would be good to change over to the Metric System or why it would be bad

I would like to know... So please no rude answersYour opinion should America change their measurement system?Yes, I believe America should change their measurment system because it has caused many problems. Example: A spacestation/satellite/ect. was being bulit to go into space, this project had to be delayed to do the fact that the conversion from metric to our system was done wrong. If everyone had the same system there would be no problem.

Do you think Obama will actually change America?

Do you really think Obama is capable of changing a country?

In my opinion it's not the president that rules the country, its the world bankers, secret agencies etc.

The president is just there puppet.

I mean did you think George Bush could've run a country, he probably can't even tie his own shoe laces. The presidents are nothing at all, compared to the elite powers in this world. World bankers, oil owners, federal agencies and people who control the economy are the real people who control America and the world. So all the people that are acting like Obama is a God send, do you really believe he will change America?Do you think Obama will actually change America?I agree with Truth the first answer, and you. He would not be where he is unless he was going to aid the powers in bringing our country into the NWO. Stock up on food and bullets, the worst of times is yet to come.

And for those uninformed masses that dont know what we are talking about,%26quot; Read None Dare call it Conspiracy%26quot; for starters.Do you think Obama will actually change America?Yeah... right into the New World OrderDo you think Obama will actually change America?Bush certainly changed the country--for the WORSE. Obama could take that kind of change to the next level if he were elected, which will never happen.Do you think Obama will actually change America? You'll have %26quot;change%26quot; in your pocket when he taxes you to death!Do you think Obama will actually change America?yes, a drastic change for the worse!Do you think Obama will actually change America? No. The president CAN have some say in a lot of stuff, more then you give credit to. But, they DO make Obama out to be a God and...he's just not. Do you think Obama will actually change America? He already has. Bless him for even wanting to take on the mess that Bush will leave behind. Can you imagine McCain making a difference? The guy can't remember squat as it is.Do you think Obama will actually change America? No one who is actually aware of what politics are like would say that Obama will all of a sudden change the world. Few would even say that we would see drastic changes while he's in office. Instead, what we are likely to see is many small changes. Whether or not he controls many aspects of government and of the nation as a whole, he will still be able to engage in small victories that may compile into something beneficial. Bush managed to move in the reverse directions, with many small losses amounting to a huge deficit. Hopefully Obama can reverse at least some of that.Do you think Obama will actually change America?I think Obama will do what he says he'll do. I can assure though, that nothing will change if McCain is elected and we'd only continue to go downhill.Do you think Obama will actually change America?I think it's foolish to think Obama will personally change America. He does have noble intentions though and the general public loves his attitude. Even though there are world bankers, oil owners, etc... the general public will always be the deciding factor in government policies. Do you think Obama will actually change America? The last 8 years proved George Bush can't lead a horse to water.

However, the president has much more power than you give him credit for. If he didn't, Bush's policies would not have crippled our nation.Do you think Obama will actually change America?yes, he will change the country and he will turn it into a marxist state

Now that Rev. Al Sharpton has a foot in door at White House will the direction of America change?

As a black man i must say that it took long enough for Obama to realize the genius of Al Sharpton and now that the 2 are finally working together dont you see a new America on the horizon? Now that Rev. Al Sharpton has a foot in door at White House will the direction of America change?I have not seen a lot of them working hand in hand as you say. Mr. Obama has met with him, yes but he also has met with heavy criticism for doing so. The Rev Al is a lightning rod of controversy and does not represent all of the black community. Many even those inside the black community consider him to be anti semitic and a racist, Obama is weighing all options.

No there will not be a new horizon there may be be a repeat of the many false and damaging claims that he has made in the past. Now that Rev. Al Sharpton has a foot in door at White House will the direction of America change?Hell no! The only change that will occur will be Al Sharpton's loss of self in exchange for political power. Just like it happened to Prez. BHO. You just become %26quot;another one of them%26quot; when you spend more time in the White House. He's just going to find out who the real people in power are and his voice won't change a d*mned thing. God bless him for his vigor though...

Did america change their emergency phone number after the 9/11, or is it pure coincidence?

and if it is for a reason, is it the same for Australian emergency phone number? (number is 000)Did america change their emergency phone number after the 9/11, or is it pure coincidence? No, 911 has been the emergency number in the US since back in the 1980's.

The terrorists apparently chose the date out of some sort of dark sense of humor.Did america change their emergency phone number after the 9/11, or is it pure coincidence?Coincidence

Should America change over to the Euro or another form of currency?

Are you for or against something like this? If you are for it, explain yourself.Should America change over to the Euro or another form of currency?Changing to a world currency is probably one of the worst things that could be done to harm the U.S. economy.

Along with a world government, a world currency would be the beginning of the end of sovereign governments.Should America change over to the Euro or another form of currency?I am for the gold and silver standard. Because that is the only legal tender allowed by the constitution plus it protects the peoples money from inflation, and puts thegovernment on a budget.

Gold and silver is also universally accepted as legal tenderShould America change over to the Euro or another form of currency? No, because the US dollar is extremely ingrained in the international economy. 2/3 of all dollars are in circulation outside of the US. It is the official currency of 8 other countries besides the United States, and is accepted in just about every country.Should America change over to the Euro or another form of currency? If our government is so full of itself and this 'world view' of the world, they'll probably FORCE it down our throats,Should America change over to the Euro or another form of currency? No, the Euro doesn't want to be dragged down by the financial instability of the US economy. It's always in and out of recession, and it can send the whole world into a downfall. Imagine what would happen if the EU, the world's largest economy, and the US, the world's second largest economy, joined together, and then collapsed. The consequences would be devastating.

The reckless nature of Wall Street is too unpredictable for the sensible EU to consider. The Euro is for the European's and their free trade agreement, and all nations that wish to trade with it. The only change that could ever possibly happen to the greenback in the near future is possibly a currency merge with Canada and Mexico, but I doubt America would sign up for it.

  • Can the world view of America change for the better?

Probably going to get some hot answers here. Try to keep a cool head. But, what are your thoughts. Should we continue to be forceful or should we be more peaceful? Should we let the kids in the sand box kill themselves or should we try to help longer? Will Barack Obama make the world see that America really is ready for a change? Can the world view of America change for the better?Firstly I am not american... I would like to tell u that the world is expecting to see u guys change. There is nothing wrong with the intention to help but the problem begins when u apply your american methods in middle east or for that reason anywhere outside america. To really be able to help you must be in a position to understand the culture of the people that u r rying to help otherwise its definite that you screw up every time like u have in the past.......Can the world view of America change for the better?I would like to think it can't get much worseCan the world view of America change for the better? It has to. The world does not have a favorable view of us under Bush. Can the world view of America change for the better?no...Can the world view of America change for the better? No, we are the big kid on the block and they will always hate us. But when the **** hits the fan the all come running to us.Can the world view of America change for the better?it will change for the better in the eyes of the terrorist and those that mean harm as well as the dissatisfied in America when Obama gets to be leader of the free world he is supported by those that are enemies of the USA in other countries they indorse ObamaCan the world view of America change for the better?Bush has shown us and the world that this country needs change. Obama is the man that will bring on the change. Can the world view of America change for the better?Let us flip the coin for a moment.

Why would Hama's support anyone for President, unless they thought it would help them.

“I hope Mr. Obama and the Democrats will change the political discourse,” he said. “I do believe [Obama] is like John Kennedy, a great man with a great principle.”Can the world view of America change for the better?Electing Obama would at least show the world that the US would be willing to compromise and negotiate, and that a majority of Americans want to go in a new direction that's more in line f the worlds politicsCan the world view of America change for the better?i think we should b more peaceful. but i think we should not but kids in school so much. its TO MUCH pressure!! i kno thats what every person in school says but i really think that. i mean u go to school for 6 1/2 hours, then u go home and have over like 3 hours of homework. kids have kno lifes!!! but its not fair. but i think obama could do something but i dont kno what.

answer me please--http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?…Can the world view of America change for the better?Yes. Throughout history no one has thought much of the reigning major power of the time; Rome, the British Empire, United States of America....

Currently the USA is not unlike any previous empire (minus the emperor, though some would debate that metaphorically).

Gaining power by occupying others, driving hard hitting propaganda campaigns, declaring war, controlling trades and acting outside the wishes of ones peers never wins friends. Once the USA draws its people back to its own soil and opens talks with others not just those who do as they are told popular opinion will change again.

I think that Obama could be the best thing for the USA's international image. Can the world view of America change for the better?Obama's election could be a signal that things in America could be different than they have in the past 7.5 years. There are already indications that his nomination has already improved this view. Can the world view of America change for the better? My thought:

Everyone LOVES America when they need help. Just ask the French ;)

In the meantime...who gives a rat's ***!Can the world view of America change for the better?Obama says that this is the greatest country in the world; and that he wants to change it.Can the world view of America change for the better?Weirder things have happened. Can the world view of America change for the better? They just echo our left word for word

This is not new just louder With the downfall of the USSR they feel it's time to bark at the big dog

We should keep a stong military and presidentCan the world view of America change for the better?Yes it can be changed for the better. As soon as we elect a leader of some intelligence, wisdom, diplomacy, and some knowledge of economics.

There is a time for war, and there is a time for peace. The war in Afghanistan was the time for war, Iraq was NOT. Finish one job before starting another. It only weakens the line on all fronts, and cannot be accomplished with full success. Can the world view of America change for the better?I think you are looking at it very simplistically. I would say instead we should use both force and diplomacy, but they must be used judicially. President Carter emphasized the latter and was seen as a weak and totally ineffectual President. Bush emphasized the former, and look at where we are. I would say that the President has to walk that tightrope. He should know that diplomacy cannot solve all of our ills. Also, the military cannot solve all of our ills either. America is not strong because our military is strong or we are the savants of diplomacy. We are powerful because we set the benchmark for innovation, setting the example for hard work and inclusiveness, and our idealism. I don't know if Obama or McCain will make things better, but whoever is President I hope has the wisdom to see beyond the petty interests of a few people and make decisions for the greater good.

How was life in America changed during World War II?

Socially, economically, etc.How was life in America changed during World War II?many women left the low-paid occupations they had been working at before the war and went to work in defense jobs which were much better paid. In 'America's Women' Gail collins writes:

'The first women to volunteer for defense jobs had already been working, in low-status, low-paying positions, and they grabbed at the chance to make better salaries. Peggy Terry, who got a job with her mother and sister at a shell-loading plant in Kentucky, was euphoric %26quot;We made the fabulous sum of thirty-two dollars a week%26quot; she said %26quot;To us it was just an absolute miracle. Before that, we made nothing.%26quot; As a result of the great migration of women to defense jobs, 600 laundries went out of business in 1942, and in Detroit, a third of the restaurants closed because of the lack of help.

although most unmarried women were already working when the war started, a number of college students quit school to join the war effort. Among the other early volunteers were the wives of servicemen. %26quot;Darling, you are now the husband of a career woman - just call me your Ship yard Babe%26quot; wrote Polly Crow to her husband overseas.

The shortage of teachers impelled most school boards to drop their rules against married women,a nd some actually appealed to married ex-teachers to return. By late 1942, unemployment was virtually non-existent, and the government prjoected a need for 3 million more workers in the next year. child labor laws were suspended for youngsters over twelve. handicapped Americans were given opportunities t enter the workforce, as were black women and older women. But the prime pool of potential workers were married women. However, even when the war was at its height and the need for workers was most desperate, nearly 90 percent of the housewives who had been at home when Pearl harbor was bombed still ignored the call.

Whether women worked or not, their lives were made infinitely more complicated by rationing, which restricted the availability of sugar, coffee, certain types of meat, and canned goods as well as things like gasoline, tires, and stockings. New appliances were not being manufactured, and children who were promised a bicycle on the eve of World War II were sometimes licensed to drive by the time it became available. Unable to find stockings, women began wearing leg makeup instead. and since the stockings of the 1940s had seams down the back, women's magazines ran guides on how to draw a realistic-looking line down the calf.

American rationing was mainly a matter of inconvenience. By eating less sugar and being forced to walk because of the gasoline shortage, the population was arguably in better shape than it would ever be again. %26quot;Never in he long history of human combat have so many talked so much about sacrifice with so little deprivation as in the United Sates in World War II%26quot; sniped John Kenneth Galbraith, whoworked at the Office of price Administration.

Civilans got stamps every month that gave them the right to buy different products. %26quot;My mother and all the neighbors would get together around the table and they'd be changing a sugar coupon for a bread or meat coupon. It was like a giant Monopoly game%26quot; said Sheila Cunning, who was a child in Long Beach, California, during the war.

    The war did a great deal to restore men's Depression-battered postion as the most important member of the family. the nation's entire attention was turned to the fate of husbands, brothers, sons, and boyfriends fightingt overseas. Marriage rates jumped. %26quot;The pressure to marry a soldier was so great that after a while i didn't question it%26quot; said Dellie hane of Los Angeles, who wound up unhappily married to a man in uniform. %26quot;That women married soldiers and sent them overseas happy was hammered at us.%26quot; %26quot;The girls I knew all had boyfriend were in the services and we didn't date because we were 'tagged'%26quot; said Emily Koplin of Milwaukee. %26quot;We didn't do any dating, those were the years when we would go to dances and girls would dance with girls.%26quot; The Baltimore sun noticed that %26quot;women who never vnetured out at night without a man sally forth in twos and threes without a qualm. Late movies have a a large female audience.%26quot;

For black women, the war years were a combination of opportunity and frustration. The high-paying defense jobs were the hardest to crack. in 1943, at the height of the labor shortage, the United Auto Workers surveyed 280 factories and foudn that only 74 were willing to hire an African American. When light industry went out recruiting, it turned to white women while heavy industry targeted black men. Most employers, when challenged by government or civil rights groups, said they could not hire black women because white women refused to work with them. that was often true, though companies that took a firm line and forced their employees to choose between integration and loss of lucrative jobs generally managed to overcome the problem fairly quickly.

it was not until 1944, under heavy pressure from eleanor roosevelt, that black wsomen were welcomed into the military. The WAC eventually enlisted 4,000 black recruits. Despite its grave shortage of nurses, the army was reluctant to take black RNs - particularlyif they would be treating white soldiers. the corps eventually took 500 and then enraged the black community by assinging some of them to work in prisoner-of-war camps.

In civilian life, black women moved into whatever slots white women left. They often took over low-paying jobs like elevator operators and car cleaners on railroads, but whatever the job, they saw it as an improvement over domestic work. %26quot;My sister always said that hitler was the one that got us out of the white folks' kitchens%26quot; said Tina Hill, a Los Angeles aircraft plant worker. The white hosuewives who were left scrambling for domestic help blamed the government - particularly the roosevelts, for encouraging the black women to look for higher-paying opportunities.'How was life in America changed during World War II?Befor the attack on Pearl Harbor, Americans wanted the United States to be isolated and neutral. They didn't want to enter another World War because they were just getting over World War I and the Great Depression. College students had walk-outs saying that they would never go to war. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Americans became more patriotic, propoganda was big, the average age that couples got married lowered, women began to work outside the home, families were often broken apart due to different working schedules of the parents, people were paranoid about the Japanese Americans and German Americans, and racism was still prevelant (Mexican Americans, African Americans).

Why dont America change there measurments?

Ok I live in Australia now I don't want to start an argument just an answer why do they use the outdated Imperial system when the Metric system is easier to use. Now I know you guys will say the Imperial system is easier for us since we grew up with it but i hear that you also learn the Metric. Also I do realize you use yards in NFL and Feet for measuring people which i personally like but why not change. Also why do you guys still use Fahrenheit when most countries use Celsius. Yet again not trying to be rude just a simple explanation. Why dont America change there measurments?1 reason...we are stubborn......very stubborn

we like to keep things the way they are (like paw did it). (and a lot of pride in our individuality)

in reality a lot of things are in both units here, and there are a lot of people (even outside of science) who use it.

I like the idea of using both...but see the need to go ahead and completely switch on things wrenches (we use inches i.e. 1/8th, 7/16th,....) which is a lot more difficult than metric i.e. 1,,2,3,4,..., but with so many older pieces of equipment it's better to use both units on the wrench.

And when you think about it it's all the same...people have already posted how confusing the imperial system is...because you are not used to it....same with many Americans concerning the metric system. Why dont America change there measurments?Well... yes, we all grow up with it.

Plus, you all know it, too.

We use it in our country, and everybody knows how it works. It's fairly rare that something goes international and gets screwed up because of different systems. The only real times that the two systems become an interview come in with science transfer or large companies that have different divisions in different countries.

However, when it comes to science, the International SI unit system is the standard, and everyone like me follows it.

Last... on those really rare instances when you're trying to communicate across systems, everyone knows very quick conversions for any of the common units we all know. One meter and one yard are off by only 0.09361, so it's safe to just in everyday life swap meters and yards, and we all know what it means. A kilogram is very close to half a pound (or, 1 kg is about 2 pounds). A kilometer is only just a bit over half a mile.

You see where I'm going with this. I can talk to my in-laws in Moscow (if I get the language right), and if measurements come up for some reason, nobody needs a calculator to talk about them.

Here in America, we use the Imperial system, but it's not like we go back to the really strange ancient Imperial units, like rods, furlongs, chains... no, nobody even mentions them outside of a joke.

The only *real* issue that regular folk ever have mixing metric and Imperial comes down to temperature. Obviously, they're very different. I agree that the Centigrade scale makes much more sense, at least as it is referenced per fresh water's phase change points. But if that's the only problem, then I don't think that it's an issue for you to call up a pal in Nevada, and exchange temperatures, and have to work it out between yourselves what they mean to you.

This hasn't been an argument either, just an explanation of why we will likely *never* change to metric -- there are no really good, definitive arguments as to why it would be very necessary for the average person to do so.Why dont America change there measurments? The main reason is that the US has a large religious conservative minority, very similar to the Taliban in their outlook. Any sort of progressive change here is very difficult. The new health care measure is still meeting with violent opposition in some places. A unilateral conversion to the metric system would really set off those crackpots. Why dont America change there measurments?i agree...the old %26quot;imperial%26quot; system is dumb...and in physics, it's horrible...foot-lbs...horsepower, slugs...what the hell. Why dont America change there measurments? The metric system is a communist plot.

(This is what people really think. /facepalm)Why dont America change there measurments?I am in India 66 years old.I can understand both standard. But my sons and daughters can not understand imperial systems. But USA wants peculiar in their standard. The day may come once the people of their country realises the simplicity in metric system they will switch over to it.Why dont America change there measurments? It seems to be as difficult as teaching grammar to AustraliansWhy dont America change there measurments?I doubt the average American would have the intelligence to cope. Every other country has transferred successfully. It seems that America just wants to be difficult. Why dont America change there measurments?well there are two ways of converting a country to metric

one way is the shock switch

like 5 yrs before the change

teach the children metric units only

than 5 yrs later change all the road signs

the other slower way is the adaptation way which has been used in the uk since 1965 let everyone gradually change which takes too long and costs alot more.

Also some people don't like change and are afraid of the metric system

How can we in America, change the laws where certain places of employment MUST give,,,, see below?

their employees more than a five minute break? Or a twenty minute lunch?Really this is unfair, to the people who have to work hard, for their pay, to only recieve a big 5 minute break to the restroom and back, or a 20 minute lunch, and have to fight to use either the mircowave or to get something out of the machines. If people would ban together on this, I do believe something can be done. How can we in America, change the laws where certain places of employment MUST give,,,, see below?you need to check your labor laws and eorkers rights which in most states should be posted in your wor place and if you have a union you can talk to them. but i know in philadelphia and the soundring cities if you work 8hrs. a day you are entilted to a 30min. lunch break and 2 15min. breaksso if you are working 12hrs. a day you should get at least an 1hr. lunch and 2 15min. breaks. if 6hrs. you should get either a 30min. lunch or 2 15min. breaks. but like i said please check with you labor board and do your own researchto find out and if in high school they have rules and laws for them to.How can we in America, change the laws where certain places of employment MUST give,,,, see below?state laws say break should be 10 mins. every 2 hours

we get 10 min breaks every 2 hours and a 1 hour lunch and

if it was an easy job people would stick aroundHow can we in America, change the laws where certain places of employment MUST give,,,, see below?Well either you have a union, depending on the type of work you do (autoworker, electrician, supermarket, etc...) or you write to your representative (district or state congress) and tell them about these issues. Political representatives are supposed to represent the people to help them.

For example, I believe in California the state law requires more than what you are talking about (10 or 15 minute break and 30 minute lunch, don't recall the details at the moment).

  • When Obama is Changing America, how will he get around that Pesky Constitution, will he use the Bush method???

Just call the Constitution a ***, ****** piece of paper.

It would fall in line with all he learned from his pastor. When Obama is Changing America, how will he get around that Pesky Constitution, will he use the Bush method???He'll just tear it up.When Obama is Changing America, how will he get around that Pesky Constitution, will he use the Bush method???The only %26quot;change%26quot; Obama wants is a change to his home address! When Obama is Changing America, how will he get around that Pesky Constitution, will he use the Bush method???Obama and the left wing want the first amendment gone %26quot;fairness doctrine%26quot; 2nd amendment gone %26quot;gun control%26quot; and 13th amendment gone %26quot;cradle to grave support%26quot;. Obama is a danger to this country. When Obama is Changing America, how will he get around that Pesky Constitution, will he use the Bush method???What makes you think that McCain won't use the %26quot;Bush Method%26quot;? He's from the same party and his policies are a carbon copy of Bush's.When Obama is Changing America, how will he get around that Pesky Constitution, will he use the Bush method???so now you are accusing Obama of being Bush, that's really intelligent of you. You really have nothing else to say. When Obama is Changing America, how will he get around that Pesky Constitution, will he use the Bush method???Oama is an expert at understanding the constitution. He taught students about it. Do research %26amp; listen to the candidates instead of being like a 7th grader blaming Obama for what Bush has done...You don't have the intelligence you understand about his pastor so give it a rest already we understand you are upset about something but it has nothing to do with Obama. When Obama is Changing America, how will he get around that Pesky Constitution, will he use the Bush method???He will do what Hitler and other left-wingerzzzz lib politicos of the U.S do... He will implant judges that do not abide by the Constitution, but make it up as they go along... Yes, Hitler also brought in judges for his own purposes after winning a Democratic election in Germany. Bet you little left-wingerzzzzzzzzz didn't know that. When Obama is Changing America, how will he get around that Pesky Constitution, will he use the Bush method???Hmm... He will probably go to his likely rubberstamp congress and have them push through a constitutional ammendment.

How about a constitutional amendment that defines a marriage as a religious designation, assigns all political rights to civil unions, and assigns every married american a civil union?

That would mean gay people could get married in any church that supports it and have the same legal rights as straight couples!

How about war crimes trials brought against key members of the Bush administration?

    How great would that be?

There are a ton of Republican arguements that Obama and his rubberstamp congress can put to bed for all time.

How would the world view of America change if McCain is elected or would it?

Probably not much! How would the world view of America change if McCain is elected or would it?As a positive change for America. The oil rich, warmongering, cowboys, will be gone. McSame, one of the ranch hands, wont be electedHow would the world view of America change if McCain is elected or would it?america is not their country, but it is my country so i don't care what the hell they think.

i'll vote for mccainHow would the world view of America change if McCain is elected or would it?I am a New Yorker working in the UK and have worked throughout Europe for the past decade. The world sees the US only in terms of economic ties. When the US economy is good, the economy of allies and foes alike is good. When we produce, we purchase raw materials from other countries. When we create we sell to other countries. When we are financially well off, we buy things made by other countries. The world as a whole doesn't care who is in the White House as long as the tied economy stays positive.

The caveat to that however is that those countries who look to us to support their security and to help them build their own democracies are terrified that radical changes will mean that they are left swinging in the wind. In that regard Obama or Clinton were looked upon with a great deal of suspicion and fear. How would the world view of America change if McCain is elected or would it?it depends on how he would differ from bush. my husband and i travel internationally a lot. the world's view of george bush is that he is a terrorist and murderer. it's really scary. it takes a while for some people to warm up to you when they know that you are american until they realize that you do not agree with the crimes of your government.

What would happen if America changed to a strict legal version of Hammurabi's Code?

Will there be a lower crime rate or people will rebel and find ways to abide with their rights? What would happen if America changed to a strict legal version of Hammurabi's Code? The politically correct crowd would be the first up against the wall. What would happen if America changed to a strict legal version of Hammurabi's Code?let the lawsuits flow inWhat would happen if America changed to a strict legal version of Hammurabi's Code?yes the crime rate would fall dramatically for fear of life. You could never kill in self defence for you would be killed as well. Women would lose self esteem, and their would be a lot of dead bodies to deal with.

The code of hammurabi is not intention based, sexist, and class ruled, George Bush could kill anyone he wanted to, as long as he had the money. It was perfectly legal for a man to cheat on his wife, but if the wife cheated, she and her lover were killed, imagine aplying these rules to AmericaWhat would happen if America changed to a strict legal version of Hammurabi's Code?gee whiz..........I was going to say that it looks like they beat me to it

How will mainstream Christian religions in America change with Democrats in power?

Will they cease to be known as right wing Republican supporters and follow Jesus' teachings more, thus appealing to a broader group of people? How will mainstream Christian religions in America change with Democrats in power? No, we will continue to follow the teachings of Christ. We will continue to oppose murdering babies dispite the view of the president elect. We will continue to believe Jesus that marriage is between a man and a woman dispite the corrupt Democrat dogma. How will mainstream Christian religions in America change with Democrats in power?I think may be we should start worshiping Einstein, build Church of Darwin, and make sacrifices to Elvis Presley. Reinstating inquisition sounds nice too.

What are the key ways in which colonial America changed between its founding and the mid 1700s?

Are there significant changes in colonial economies? Political systems? The social structure of colonial society? The worldview of the colonists? What are the key ways in which colonial America changed between its founding and the mid 1700s?1.Times wer good before the Revolution. The Seven Years war was over, and America was the LEAST taxed British colonie, but Americans wanted their rights as stated by the Virginia Company and the English Constitution. So the war began. I blame Samual Adams for getting this all started. (Want some irony? Sam Adams was a tax collector.)

    2. The political system was this-Virginia had the House of Burgesses, it basicly gave the colonies little voice. They wanted a voice in parlimant, so they had say as the English Constitution stated.

    3. The social structure was like this-Slaves%26gt;Free Slaves%26gt;Farmers%26gt;Middle class merchants%26gt;%26gt;Upper Class Merchants or polital figures (Goveners)

    4. The worldview of the colonists was very good, its just that the British saw the colonists as savage, beastly, poor, and such. But in truth, they were just like the British.

Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president?

Do u think the constitution should be changed? Does it matter if a presidential candidate was born in a different country, but served his time in America??Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president?Do not drink so much and avoid being a Reagan.

Else you might confuse movies with reality more often.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president?NO. Yes.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? It is kind of a stupid outdated %26quot;law%26quot; but I would rather have someone other than the Governator as Pres.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? You are welcome to try but I doubt such an amendment would ever pass.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? No. we do not need to change the Constitution. He does not need to run or be The PresidentShould America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president?NO.......NO......YES it does matter where they are born.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? The Constitution is clear. I adore Arnold and think he would make an awesome Prez. But if we change that rule, it would open up the door for every Castro, Foxe, Calderon, Hussein, and Bin Laden (etc) to try ... the law exists for a reason. That reason is still pertinent today.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president?NO WAYShould America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president?NO!!!!!!!

I don't really think that you could say that he has served his time in the US. I am still a firm believer in the fact that you MUST be born here to serve as president!Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president?no. if you let arnold run, then george soros could run as well. Leave the constitution alone.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? While I uphold the idea based on the possibility of others that would be a real mistake to allow them grounds to run for the Presidency, it would be nice if exceptions on a case by case basis could be made. I think the Arnold would make a very good president.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? No. It shouldn't be changed. Our founding fathers knew what they were doing. Best not mess with the work of brilliant, God fearing men that loved America with a passion.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? No, I don't think we should change any of our Constitutional Laws. Our founding fathers had much more common sense than our power hungry politicians of today.

I do think some of them should be clarified though - like babies being citizens when neither of the parents are not. What kind of nonsense is that?

We need to clarify our laws to mandate one or both parents be citizens to have a child become a natural born citizen, just like most other countries.

This means ending the anchor baby law by ending the automatic citizenship of a baby upon birth to an illegal alien. The US Constitution does not support this. It was speaking about slaves which existed at the time the US Constitution was written - so made sense at that time.

Our founding fathers would roll over in their graves if they knew what a mockery our current Senators are making of our laws. We need a complete overhaul of our Senate, not our US Constitution.

As to Arnold? I like him. He seems to be a nice person. But we have a US Constitution written to protect the sovereignty of our country - and should not be %26quot;bent%26quot; just because we get a nice guy every now and then.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president?Ever noticed some of arnolds pic's from bodybuilding?

He is as his father a NAZI supporter. He openluy says it in his latest book, and has published other books supporting communism. Look It up!

That law was put in place for a REASON and it is not out dated!Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? We should not change the Constitution to nullify the requirement that a US President be a US citizen by birth. Though some naturalized citizens, like Schwarzenegger, may have a keen grasp of American heritage and governance, the threshold should not be lowered just to accommodate a select few of the naturalized citizens, because changing the Constitution would affect ALL naturalized citizens, and there are a number of naturalized citizens that still have divided loyalties between America and their nation of origin. Many naturalized citizens are still trying to find their way through the American experience, and they haven't fully assimilated yet. We do not need to allow persons who potentially have divided loyalties to be qualified to run for US President. Preserving this Constitutional safeguard is more important than clearing the path for one exceptional foreign born person to run for President.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? You're at the tail end of a long of people who have asked this question before you. But one more time, just for you:

With the MILLIONS of potentially eligible candidates in this couintry, there is no reason at all to change the Constitution for this reason. Besides, our federal Constitution, unlike some state constitutions, requires a very strong majority vote for a change. Offhand, I believe it takes a 75% vote, so there would be very little chance of passage.

Some states, like Missouri, take only a simple majority, which can lead to abuse like the badly misrepresented %26quot;stem cell research%26quot; bill that was passed in 2006 by many people, including medical doctors, who admitted that they never read or understood the full intent of the bill, or the potentially unlimited taxation that could result for its passage. The campaign for votes was funded almost entirely by one private special interest group that would be the primary beneficiary when the bill was passed.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? No way should we change it. Where does that end?Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? As I recall, Governor George Wilcken Romney (father of the current 2008 presidential candidate Mitt Romney) faced the same hurdles. George W Romney was born outside the USA also. He distinguished himself in several other ways.

Your question would not be a change of law. It would be a Constitutional change. Other than his talent as an entertainer, I have yet to see any reason to vote for him for dog catcher. His wife's connection to the Kennedy's is cause for concern as well.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president?Yes, if Arnold runs for President in a dress.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? No - The law is there for a reason. That would open us up to a HUGE problemShould America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president?Like Arnold would make a good Pres with CA being over-populated with illegals and one of his first deeds-putting financial burdon on our college students, No Thanks!Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? No. there is a very good reason for the Constitution being what it is. And thats because we dont need some enemy of the United States making a long term plan to take over the country by getting a youngster citizen ship and having him run for President.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president?noShould America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president? Please keep him in kalfornia.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president?Heck no. He shouldn't even be governor with that accent.Should America change the Laws so Arnold can run for president?Absolutely. The original fear was that a foreigner would try to sabotage the office, and was probably true. England would stop at nothing back then.

There are a great many people in the United States that chose to live and work here, become citizens, because they love the Country.

How about the late Bob Hope? Traveled the globe with the USO performing for our troops, hosting college football specials, got his start in Chicago, made his way on film, tv, and radio, performing with the Rat Pack...the man completely loved America. But, he wasn't born here so he couldn't be president.

However, an illegal in America has a child, they are a natural born citizen. Assuming they continue to live here, that child will be eligible to be president. It is time for a change. There is no reason why someone born outside the U.S. should not be allowed to be President. Place some stipulations on it, have to be a citizen for 20 years or something.

I'd be far more worried about someone like Ari Fleischer, former Bush press secretary. He has dual-citizenship. He is legally a citizen of two countries at the same time. Where does his allegiance lie? He doesn't even use his first name, Lawrence. Yet he is eligible to be President, he was born in New York.

Michael Moore, who clearly, at least on the outside, hates America, can be President.
