2) The movement of the majority of the population from farms to the cities: gave our rising industries a larger work force, increased incomes and income taxes

3) WWI: saw rise of airplane and tanks, gave us a military reputation, brought us out of isolationism

4) Sherman Anti-Trust Act: the basis for dismantling monopolies, increased competition in business, lowered prices

5) Automobiles: allowed people to live farther from their work, allowed trade goods to be shipped faster to to smaller and more rural areas

6) Tanks: changed the face of war, by WWII the main offensive weapon on the ground

7) Henry Ford: paid higher wages, so economy/taxes rise; made cars cheaper so more people could drive; formalized assembly line system of manufacturing

8) Airplane: change how wars were fought; became the primary weapon in WWII in the pacific...

By 1950, substantial portions of the bill of rights were applied to state government, and the revolutions of civil rights and criminal rights law in the offing.

9. The development of vaccines and antibiotics. In 1919-20, an influenza epidemic wiped out a huge portion of the population. By 1950, scientists had developed large scale antibiotics, vaccines, and thousands of drugs that were making unimaginable headway against diseases.
