They pay some taxes through sales and gas and the like, but not nearly enough to cover their burden. The illegals that work off the books are taking away potential income from citizens who would spend a lot more of that money in America instead of sending so much out of the country. And since they work off the books, that is more tax money not being collected that should be collected. There are a lot of criminals who would not be here if we had somehow stopped illegal immigration. Maybe not a large percentage of those who are here, but they still exist where they should not. I think it hasn't changed much at all. I don't think there is as many people coming here since the job opportunities are becoming really low. Actually, Immigration has been so lax for so many years now, they were tossing the rules and allowing people in without any formal knowledge of English and History. That sort of abuse has been across the field and the general educational level of the immigrants has declined with their educational level falling to something below the high school level.
It sounds like nothing? More and more frequently, they must turn to welfare for life as they are removed from their jobs as those jobs grow, or change. Far to much of this has been the reflection of party politics and things could get very ugly in a few years as the people without educations demand their piece of the pie.

Not all know English so their children do not learn English until their school years, which we then pay for them to learn.
