Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings?

Mine haven't. I firmly believe in the right to bear arms, whether it be handguns or otherwise. I believe that the current gun laws are sufficient. Bad people who are going to do bad things with guns aren't going to be stopped by stricter gun laws. The student involved in the shooting bought the guns he used legally in Virginia, including the required 30 day waiting period. But the fact that he was able to buy them means nothing. Like I said before, bad people are going to do bad things with guns regardless of strict gun laws or no gun laws.

What do you think? Serious answers only.Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings? No, not at all. I too, firmly believe in the right of American citizens to bear arms. I think that gun operation and safety should be taught from elementary school all the way up thru high school.Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings?I think this just proves that the right to bear arms is very necessary. If someone in that classroom had a gun on them there would be a lot less fatalities. For jayce Australia is an Island if the US were to take guns away from its citizens the criminals would still get lots of them on the black market from Mexico and we would all be helpless. The problems of Australia are not necessarily the same as the ones in America.Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings? No it hasn't. Guns don't kill people, PEOPLE kill people. If someone wants a gun bad enough they will get it one way or another. We should continue our right to bear arms. I completely agree with you.Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings?I live in Australia and about 10 years ago we a had bad shooting here, afterwards the Prime Minister took all the guns away, you cant own a gun at your home unless you are a farmer or someone that requires one. We still have to ocassionaly person being shot but it is not often. So I actually think stricter gun laws would be better for you guys in the US.Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings?NO, if you bury your head in the sand in the face of violence, or think that banning an inanimate object will stop violence, you have lost touch with reality. Evil is in the heartsof man, not in an inanimate object. Place the blame where it belongs, on the killer.Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings? Not at all. Anyone over 21 can get a handgun legally. Anyone with connections can get it underage and illegally. They choose to use it the way that they want, some handle it with care and responsiblity and some don't. That's just life. Some choose to drive their cars while intoxicated and some choose to be responsible and not drive their cars drunk. Guns don't kill people, People kill people. HE could have just as easily gone in there with a bomb, chainsaw, sword, screwdriver, board with a nail etc. and done just as much damage.Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings? In some states they hav the Baker act,a good thing!!If sum1 is danger to self or others they get evaluated for 30days. Most places u cant do Nothing . Hav u ever seen sum1 wearing a coat in july talking to themselves?? u can not do any thing about it either!!!!! so no i believe these type should not be ruining it 4 all who want a gun.Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings?yeah i think that all school personnel should be trained in the use of fire arms and be required to carry weapons.

as well as bank tellers and postal workers. well maybe not postal workers . nevermind.Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings? What I think is I never liked guns, even when I was in the Navy. I went hunting once and could not fire the gun to kill a deer. I think if people want to have one they should be able to own one. But this country was started on religious beliefs like in God we trust and that is being taken away more and more all the time. Old saying %26quot;when they took pray out of the schools they made a big mistake%26quot; and the power and control teachers once had is gone. And where do the kids get their point of views, from their parents. It all starts at home and home it not what it used to be anymore. Home two people dropping kid off and picking them up at night, other people teaching them values and such during the day. Everything changes, but it doesn't always mean for the better.Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings?Look.... I am Australian and I love the USA. I frequently visit and it is such a shame that such a great country has become obsessed with guns. In your situation America needs to look at Australia as an example.

In 1996 we had the worst single-shooter massacre in the world... prior to this occurance mass killings by firearms were frequent in Australia (much like in the US). The 1996 (Port Arthur Massacre) event was the final straw.... enough was enough....

We changed our gun laws... as a result semi-automatic weapons etc were banned (what purpose do they honestly serve members of the public anyway, how many bullets must we be able to shoot at a time...). Restrictions on licensing and ownership were also put into place, and as a result gun violence has significantly fallen.

Sure.... maybe you should own guns but at the moment gun laws in the US are a joke (and the whole world can see it). You have a homicide rate equivilant to that of a third-world country and are lagging behind in comparison to other developed nations. There needs to be at least some control placed on who can own a gun (given their past etc) and more careful behavioural analysis implemented on those who wish to recieve a gun. It is a joke that in some states you dont even need a permit or license to buy/own a gun. Something needs to be done.....it is too easily to get you hands on a gun in the U.S.Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings? No, mine haven't. Before this even happened I did not agree with America's gun laws. Back in the late 90's Australia suffered the worlds worst singled man shooting massacre at Port Arthur, Tasmania. Since then gun laws have become more strict, and you have to be licensed and have reason to be carrying guns. Gun crime levels since that day have decreased dramatically. Sure, if a person is responsible it should be no problem that they can carry a gun, but that is where licensing and responsible use of guns come in, to prevent pyschos from obtaining weapons and killing innocents. when you think about it, its only a short moment of pulling the trigger and you can end/ruin someones life.Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings? But you have to realize it's different for different states. Some are more strict and some are very easy. In this case the suspect was able to buy guns in matter of minutes when his instructors have alerted police about 'disturbing writings.'

So, it's not unreasonable to ask states ensure if someone is reported to police because their behaviors disturbed those around them, don't give guns to these potentially unstable people.

Stricter guns laws won't take guns away from people who have them.

Idea of gun control is to reduce number of guns in circulation. You're right regardless of gun laws people will have them. But less guns will lead to less gun crimes.

Do you think there is higher probability of car accidents when there are more cars on street? Or less cars on streets?

Everybody want better security, more 'rights' without sacrificing something. That's fact. If people wants to make a difference we all have to sacrifice something.

We all pay tax. But do we use all the services provided by tax dollars? I don't drive wrecklessly, but I have to follow laws targeted at wreckless drivers. Is that fair? I don't ever take weapons into airplanes, but I still have to go through security line. I should I be required? I'm not criminal?

So is it completely unfair to have little more strict gun laws? When little sacrificie can go far to provide little more security for all?Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings? To be honest, for me there didn't even have to happen such horrible things to change my view on gun rights : I was against it already. (mind you, I guess part of that opinion is due to the fact I live in a small country, where only police are licensed to carry fire-arms.....and I'm glad about that. Unfortunately people get shot over here as well, by underworld-figures, or by people who kill people cuz of their believes....but I guess THAT's inevitable, every country has crime)Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings?First of all, in VA, there is not a 30 day waiting period. It is only an instant background check at the time of purchase. I could become a resident of VA and then purchase a handgun within 15 min. I am a gun owner myself and I believe it is our right as Americans to bare arms. Maybe a stricter background check or even a medical background check for sanity should become of this.

I can tell you one thing tho, If they would come out and say .. %26quot;%26quot;OK, all guns are illegal, take them to the police for distruction%26quot;%26quot; .... it still would not rid the world of them. Not everyone would give them up. so then what? do a door to door search of the entire USA? that is impossible. Bottom line is that there is no way that all the guns could be outlawed. I am a firm believer in owning and even carrying a gun and I would not give mine up willfully.Has your view of gun rights in America changed since the Virginia Tech shootings? When I think about guns, or when somebody says the word %26quot;gun,%26quot; the first thing comes in my mind that authorities are the only ones that have them to protect their people against harm and vile humans.

Some people are easily get heated or stir up, and, some, resolve their conflicts/confrontations by force or even worse. There are people that do bad things without thinking--meaning insane. There's also people that do bad things or about to do bad things but they stop and think first what they gonna do because of the consequences and the law.

Yes, there's a law that says people have the right to bear arm in order to protect themselves and their families. But sometimes, people misuse it. Some people are freaking out when they have drugs. Some people loose their inhibition when they are just drunk. Having a DUI in your permanent record is not end of the world, but killing someone is another case. There are people who loses their mind when they are caught in a moment or being emotional, which we clearly seen in reality TV we have these days (Real World, etc.).

Should it be better if we have to right to use stun or tasser guns instead? At least, when somebody harrass you, you could temporarily immobilized the harraser till the proper authorities handle the situation and punishment.
