How will Universal Health Care change America?

Many of those who are aggressively supporting and calling for free health care are citing statistics extolling the pitiful state of America's health. My question is, how will free health care change these statistics? It檚 my belief, given the fact that all Americans already have access to quality health care through insurance, Medicaid or by simply walking into an emergency room, that free health care won檛 change these statistics. It檚 my opinion that the reason for the pitiful state of Americas health is because the life styles of many Americans and the fact that Americans aren檛 taking advantage of the health care options they have available to them now. So how will free health care change this? Will more 榝ree health care?make them more likely to take the time to go see a doctor or to get a regular check up? I檓 thinking not and wondering why so many are so eager to hang an incredibly huge and costly entitlement on the backs of Americans if it won't make any difference? How will Universal Health Care change America?I am a nurse. Since 1993.

Who is going to pay the healthcare workers under this universal plan?

I do not have insurance, as I am a healthy non-smoker I can not afford it. So, I too would like to see some reform or greed control but free healthcare? NO way.

But, if you all think for one minute healthcare workers will work for less than we are now, dream on. The shortage is there now, just wait to see who will be your healthcare givers if this happens. Practice prayer, it may be your only medicine! How will Universal Health Care change America? The idea isn't for FREE healthcare. Even Canada doesn't have free health care.

How about just affordable? It seems as easy as cutting out the middleman HMO's.

Would it change America's statistics? You bet. If more people had access to health care perhaps fewer would die of their medical problems. How will Universal Health Care change America? As a Canadian I can not see myself without our healthcare system, it is something I am proud of in fact. How will Universal Health Care change America?Right on. It would be %26quot;taxing%26quot; to the rest of us. Ha, ha. BTW, there's a state that's trying this now, Wisconsin or something like that. We'll see how it's going for them. There is a big sticker shock when people look at their paychecks, and see how much more tax $$ was taken out for this %26quot;free%26quot; healthcare...and the huge influx of non-working illegals to that state. How will Universal Health Care change America?bankruptcy. How will Universal Health Care change America?half of what you earn will go to taxes and the US will be officially socialist. How will Universal Health Care change America? You are 100 percent Wrong. You need to research this issue.i am not for Universal health insurance but with 40,000.000 American without insurance What are we to do.You have no idea about the problems we are having trying to get Insurance. How will Universal Health Care change America?I receive healthcare through my employer and it only covers my cost at their expense. If I were to add my daughter it would cost over $400 per month out of my pay. Being a single parent with a mortgage and heating costs that have risen to almost $3000 per year I cannot afford that amount and still pay all my bills. I do not have cable television nor do I have many of the extras that others have. I make just enough to not qualify for help from the government with regards to health care. I would not ask for free health care, but something more affordable would really ease my worries. I am currently making payments on a $700 ER visit from 2 years ago when my daughter was hurt. For you to say that ALL Americans already have access to quality health care is simply untrue. My daughter's father who lives in a different state is required to cover her under his plan, but the insurance company refuses to add her becuase we do live in another state and none of their %26quot;network providers%26quot; are in our state. Something needs to be done becuase it's the people out there working and barely making ends meet that are losing the most out of this.

Rich... I am not asking you to solve my problem. I am saying the way our system is set up makes it close to impossible for most average working Americans to afford insurance. Instead of working and contributing to the system I could quit my job and receive not only free health insurance for my daughter and myself but also food stamps and dental insurance. Or even work a minimum wage job and receive all these benefits and also get my student loans paid off. Instead I live and work in a low income, rural area and try to improve my life and my community by contributing. Yet I am penalized for working and making enough not to be on the system. I do not want free handouts but the cost of insurance for healthy people is outrageous. With the normal number of doctor appointments and prescriptions I spend in a year what I would in a month to pay cash instead of going through insurance. Yet sometimes when there are accidents (and yes now we do have accident insurance for under $200 per year to pay for that) and other things that come up. The government has decided it is mandatory for my daughter to either have the chicken pox vaccination or prove she has had the chicken pox by have a blood test. A trip to the doctor without insurnace is $60 for the visit, $20 to have the nurse give the shot and $20 for the shot itself; since she's had chicken pox I don't want to vaccinate her for it so instead they offer me to have the blood test at $60 for the visit, $20 to have the nurse draw blood and $100 for the blood test itself. You should be outraged yourself at paying over $1400 per month to cover your family, does it actually cost them anywhere near that to provide the care they receive. I highly doubt it.How will Universal Health Care change America?Like all conservatives, you prejudice universal health care with your vile erroneous reference to %26quot;..free health care..%26quot;

Only ignorant idiots aver such crap.In all countries that have universal health care which in fact are all the western democracies EXCEPT THE US ,citizens PAY FOR THEIR HEALTH CARE .They pay in two ways usually. At one level all working individuals are charged a specific amount for their health care coverage and the rest in paid out of general government TAX REVENUES WHICH CITIZENS PAY FOR AS WELL.

THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH ,NO FREE HEALTH CARE COVERAGE

So STOP YOUR stupidity about FREE HEALTH CARE.

The only difference between me an an American in respect to health care coverage,is that I pay my government to provide me my health care and the Americans pay an insurance company.

In terms of costs and like the rest of your post ,you have no bloody idea of what the hell you speak of!!!!!

It is simply ignoramuses like you who spread the destructive lies you do ,that is so offensive

Here is but one attestation to the fact that the US pays at least 40 % more of it's GNP on health care than say Canada does and even more than the Europeans democracies which ALL have universal health care .

In Canada our costs are currently some 10.0 % GNP while in the US it is about 15.0 % GNP.

YOU GOT IT ?????

And even more important is that in the US there are at least 47 million Americans with NO HEALTH CARE COVERAGE .(having to use only an emergency room for one's health care IS NOT HEALTH CARE COVERAGE ).

If we factor in these 47 million ,than the US health care costs would be some 20.0% GNP,MORE THAN DOUBLE Canada and otherv nations .

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.ht

Why is there this huge difference in health care costs between the US and Canada when their systems quality wise are similar??

First we use our NOT FOR PROFIT government to run and manage our system therebye eliminating the huge amounts of profit monies takem from the system.

Secondly, our single payer universal system puts ENORMOUS buyingb power into the hands of government to negotiate DRUG COSTS .

Thirdly, with a single payer system run by the government itself, there are huge cost savings (time related as well) in %26quot;paper work%26quot; as showned in the URL posted.

AS all know, drug costs in Canada are at least 50 % less than in the US for EXACTLY THE SAME DRUGS MADE BY EXACTLY THE SAME COMPANIES .

So my little ignoramus ,there will NOT be %26quot;,.. an incredibly huge and costly entitlement ..%26quot; as a result of universal health care in the US but on the contrary ,there should be a huge decrease in the costs of your health care system.

Also,in our system .one can choose whatever doctor they want which is NOT generally the case in the US and further in Canada the doctor and the doctor ONLY in consultation with the patient, determines what vspecialists are to be seen.We have no bloody number crunchers in Canada deciding such MEDICAL questions.

In respect to your sarcastic comment about %26quot;..will free health care make them more likely to go see a doctor %26quot; ,the answer as determind by numerous studies says YES and preventative medicine SAVES money in the long run.

One last point and that is that American Christians strut around wearing their faith on their sleeves in their sanctimonious,holier-than-thou manner spewing all sorts of MORALIZATIONS nonesense but inevitably manifesting themselves to be simply monumental hypocrites putting profits ahead of our Christian moral/ethical code.

That the richest country in the world allows 47 million of it's citizens to have NO HEALTH CARE and another 35 million with what is deemed inadequate health care ,spits on Christ's admonition to look after %26quot;...the least among you%26quot; and is a testimonial to their hypocricy.

As you yourself did not think it germane that there is indeed a profound MORAL issue involved here,I can only assume you don't give a damn about morality and ONL MONEY for that is really all you wrote about no matter how erroneously.

You come on here spewing all sorts of outright lies and mis-information and fully deserve this scathing rebuke of your post.

Do you work in the health care system or own lots of stock in Health Insurance Company??

Lastly, the most offensive thing about your post,is it pre-supposses we all are as ignorant as you are.I

Your ignorance is even more profound when you posit the premise thatHow will Universal Health Care change America?you pay $1,400 in healthcare insurance a month for your family...

do you know how much that is a year?

listen... if you're happy paying that much... which is CLEARLY a ridiculous amount... then I don't think anyone is going to be able to convince you otherwise... (if that's not an INSANE cost to you, I don't know what is)

you've already decided that you like being taken advantage of by the insurance companies... and hey.... more power to them for fooling you... sucker born every minute (just take a second and think about how many others are paying that same amount and how many trillions these companies are making... in profit, let alone what they are pulling in)

there have been many studies done on the issue, comparing other nation's preventative care (seeing the doctor for checkups) to our own... .and every nation with %26quot;free%26quot; healthcare crushes us (they do go to the doctor much more, they do catch stuff before it gets to the %26quot;emergency room level%26quot;, which means it's usually MUCH cheaper to treat... and who do you think is paying top dollar for the ER under our current system, when a GP is much cheaper?)...

they are also paying a lot less for healthcare overall... the simple fact is... there WILL BE NO TAX INCREASE OF $1,400 A MONTH... if this plan goes through... so you would be saving THOUSANDS a year...

EDIT: many more Americans go to Canada daily for medication than the few impatient rich Canadians that come down here for non-emergency services (and Americans can't use their healthcare, except in emergencies, you have to be a citizen silly)... that does speak volumes
