Given that no liberal president has ever taken over an entire industry, you can't really say your question is honest.
Second, Liberals want everyone to have their basic needs met and be able to enjoy a livable wage. They understand not everyone can be rich - that's no excuse not to have at least a minimum standard of living.
Third, people who come here do so because they live in overly-oppressive countries such as many parts of Africa, some of the more extremist Asian countries and many of the middle eastern countries. They don't come here because their countries are socialist - they come here because they live in a country where free speech - and other basic, human rights - aren't tolerated or practiced.
