Socialism- what is it? Very broad question with many different answers.
Socialist Democracies in western Europe have existed for over a century- what these countries do is provide a 'social safety net' for all its citizens- meaning there is a minimum they allow you to survive on- and the Government guarantees this. Health care is free or very low coast- and despite what many say in the USA is of excellent quality. Education is also free at the higher level.
Obama is really trying to bring the nation back to the center- from being ultra right for decades. He is trying to level the playing field for all Americans- instead of the rich and lucky benefiting from policies that hurt the poor and middle class.
With an aging population that will demand more services in the future - it seems the the 'progressive views' of Obama will likely take root and hold true for the coming decades. The USA is likely to see more forms of socialism in the future- and more regulation of corporations.What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?Yes, socialism is extreme (at times). And, yes, people do like to sling it around even though they don't know what it means. Also, I would like to point out that Communism and Socialism are different, even though they get tied together alot.
Democrats will always be called Socialists/Communists because they believe in government programs to help the country, and they like to %26quot;spread the wealth%26quot;, so to speak.
I would like to say that, on paper, socialism doesn't seem so bad. Giving power to the working man instead of stepping on him? Dear God!! THAT'S why (R)'s hate it so. They want to do the stepping on.
It's also VERY IMPORTANT to note that a few weeks ago, the U.S. was given 700 BILLION examples of socialism, and were told it was necessary. 700 billion, to help big, rich companies who bankrupted themselves in an attempt to get richer, but helping a man with his light bill because he's not making enough right now is somehow equated with criminal action. Unbelievable.What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?I think the people above you gave you a good idea of what socialism is about. But I'm always curious as to why people say things someone, such as Obama, wants to give money to the poor and take it from the wealthy but his plans are going to make the poor more poor. How is that so? Maybe we do need a president that understands the large gap between working people and upper middle class folk that are well off. Those rich people don't need anymore money and they should be taxed. And then on the health care issue, people b*tch and groan about paying so much money to their private health insurance company but then don't want help from the government. Seems a bit odd, but many US people want to have their cake and eat it too. What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?People here have thoroughly explained what socialism means, and it just makes me abhor Obama even more. Democrats in general want to %26quot;redistribute the wealth%26quot; and that is why is really angers me when I see the polls. Obama is about 51% and McKain 46%. This means that the score is going to be very close toward the end. Hope to God Obama doesn't come out. He will destroy this already debilitated country.What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?Socialism is how the police and fire departments work. They take taxes and do something with them for the common good.
Socialism in America is only OK when it is for the filthy rich. When the banks were doing good the profits were private. Now that they have failed the losses are public. This is the worst case scenario for socialism.What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?Socialism: The government taking your money away and giving it to someone else who doesn't have enough.
Like Obama's tax plan. 30% to 40% of wage earners don't pay any federal income tax. Obama will give them tax credits and apply them against your tax bill. If you pay nothing in taxes and have credits left he will not only refund all your taxes he will give you a check for your unused credits. That's just more welfare!
Pay nothing in taxes and get money back? This is a huge expansion of welfare. Why doesn't he just call it that.
What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president? Obama and biden want to revise the constitution of this country.
encyclopedia Britannica definition:
social and economic doctrine that calls for public rather than private ownership or control of property and natural resources. According to the socialist view, individuals do not live or work in isolation but live in cooperation with one another. Furthermore, everything that people produce is in some sense a social product, and everyone who contributes to the production of a good is entitled to a share in it. Society as a whole, therefore, should own or at least control property for the benefit of all its members
Spread the wealth around. What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?Socialism is an idealogy that suppresses the poor and keeps them poor, by taking from the wealthy and giving to the poor. By creating universal health care and free education. This would work in a country the size of maybe New England... but in the United States we would collapse. What change would Obama bring? More poverty, and the demise of America as we know it.What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?My only experience with socialism is what the Bush administration has done. Hopefully Obama will get us far away from this corporate socialism. It's worth my vote just to get as far away from this socialism as possible that the republicans have caused. These major companies are now providing housing, education, health care for free for the workers in the poor nations, but our own countries who buy the products have collapsed because of not demanding the same.What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?Since you already got your socialism definition, I'd just like to say that many uneducated conservatives on Yahoo Answers advocate the word %26quot;socialism%26quot; towards Obama, but their own Republican pundits ( TV heads ) would never DARE say that word in risk of looking like morons.
There is great plane of difference between socialism and Obama, alot of uneducated individuals would get mixed up in that debate. What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society.[1][2] Modern socialism originated in the late nineteenth-century working class political movement. Karl Marx posited that socialism would be achieved via class struggle and a proletarian revolution which represents the transitional stage between capitalism and communism.[3][4]
Socialists mainly share the belief that capitalism by nature concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital, and creates an unequal society. All socialists advocate the creation of an egalitarian society, in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly, although there is considerable disagreement among socialists over how, and to what extent this could be achieved.[1]
Socialism is not a discrete philosophy of fixed doctrine and program; its branches advocate a degree of social interventionism and economic rationalization, sometimes opposing each other. Another dividing feature of the socialist movement is the split on how a socialist economy should be established between the reformists and the revolutionaries. Some socialists advocate complete nationalization of the means of production, distribution, and exchange; while others advocate state control of capital within the framework of a market economy. Social democrats propose selective nationalization of key national industries in mixed economies combined with tax-funded welfare programs; Libertarian socialism (which includes Socialist Anarchism and Libertarian Marxism) rejects state control and ownership of the economy altogether and advocates direct collective ownership of the means of production via co-operative workers' councils and workplace democracy.What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?I just hope Obama isn't our next president. Think about it this way. Say you were in school and your teacher decides she's just going to give everyone the average grade of the class. Are you still going to work as hard knowing that some of your classmates are not going to do well and are going to fail. No. So you become less productive you do less and as a result it brings the class average down even more. Also. YOU CAN'T MAKE THE POOR RICH BY MAKING THE RICH POOR! All the people that own buisness like Microsoft, Nike,etc. have employees. When they start to lose money they can't keep paying sopme of the workers. They lay them, productivity slows down a little, they make less, and they have to lay off more workers. By the time your done a crap ton have people have lost their jobs and the stock market's gone down 40 points. OBAMA IS SENDING US INTO ANOTHER GREAT DEPRESSION!What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?Socialism is a political and economic system with freedom and equality for all, so that people may develop to their fullest potential in harmony with others. Socialist are committed to full freedom of speech, assembly, press, and religion, and to a multi-party system. We are dedicated to the abolition of male supremacy and class society, and to the elimination of all forms of oppression, including those based on race, national origin, age, sexual preferences, and disabling conditions. In a socialist system the people own and control the means of production and distribution through democratically controlled public agencies, cooperatives, or other collective groups. The primary goal of economic activity is to provide the necessities of life, including food, shelter, health care, education, child care, cultural opportunities, and social services. These social services include care for the chronically ill, persons with mental disabilities, the infirm and the aging. Planning takes place at the community, regional, and national levels, and is determined democratically with the input of workers, consumers, and the public to be served. Democracy in daily life is the core of our socialism. Public ownership becomes a fraud if decisions are made by distant bureaucrats or authoritarian managers. In socialist society power resides in worker-managed and cooperative enterprises. Community-based cooperatives help provide the flexibility and innovation required in a dynamic socialist economy. Workers have the right to form unions freely, and to strike and engage in other forms of job actions. Worker and community control make it possible to combine life at work, home and in the community into a meaningful whole for adults and children. Girls and boys are encouraged to grow up able to choose freely the shape of their lives and work without gender and racial stereotyping. Children are provided with the care, goods and services, and support that they need, and are protected from abuse. A socialist society carefully plans its way of life and technology to be a harmonious part of our natural environment. This planning takes place on regional, national, and international levels and covers the production of energy, the use of scarce resources, land-use planning, the prevention of pollution and the preservation of wildlife. The cleanup of the contaminated environment and the creation of a nuclear-free world are among the first tasks of a socialist society.
A socailist society is deomcracy in its purest form.
What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?The average person does not kisszion gave you the best definition you are going to to get. You really can't ask how Obama will change America though and get a good answer. You will have to sit down go to the government websites like http://www.senate.gov, and decide for yourself. I can guarantee you that only a few if any of the people that have answered this question has looked at the site. We as Americans sadly depend on others to make our decisions for us. I have read stuff against Obama that was pulled straight from the McCain debates. Ask yourself though can you trust anything McCain says about Obama? Anything Obama says about McCain? These two men are running a race for the same prize, and it is a political tactic to try and discredit your political advisary. The bottom line though is most people would rather listen to the drama on T.V. then to get on the web, to the actual sites, and read the facts. Is either man evil and out to ruin the country? NO they both are after the same goal a better America, and what they do in the white house will be to try and accomplish this goal. Obama is not realy a socialist he is a liberal. He believes the best route to take in bettering our country is to set up systems to help the poor in America, and give everyone an oppritunity to better themselves. McCain supporters will say he is takeing from those who work and giveing to those who won't. This is a logical attack on Obama to discredit this idea. It does not mean the system is not good, only that McCain does not support it and to get people to vote for him he has to convince others. McCain is a conservative, and believes that the government should stay out of our financial system. Obama attacks this by saying he is protecting the rich. Instead of asking on here, read for yourself and do not criminalize or point fingers saying one is evil and out to destroy America. Turn off the T.V. and understand every word that comes out of these mens mouth about the other is most likely a lie. Make the choice yourself based on what you feal is the best for the country and the voting trends of the candadite that supports that.What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?For socialism google it and decide for yourself.
for Obama:
I have watched all the debates and can not get my radio off the news. I can tell you the reasons I dont like Obama,
1. He never gives a straight answer, for example: when he was asked at the debate if he would strike Iran if they were to invade isreal, or wait for UN approval? He talked for about 3 minutes but never said yes or no. wether I would have agreed with his answer or not. I think i would have respected him for answering.
2. I am a republican, and while I do not see myself rich or even wealthy in monetary terms, I do not think someone who has become successful in wealth should have to pay more than there fair share. this country is built on equality and what kind of equality is it if someone is being taxed higher because they have been blessed enough to make more money.
3. His health care plan would cause many small buisnesses to have to close or even downsize to provide insurance, while Mccains would allow for you to keep your insurance (Possibly) and pay for it your self or through your company and have it where companies can compete out of state. this sounds normal to me. If I could buy a car in Ga cheaper than I could buy a car in TN then why not?
4. inability to admit he was wrong. I am a Soldier and have been to iraq. there is, in my opinion a reason to be there and always has been. i don't know that i would say it was the reson given to american people. but my point is the surge worked and Obama has yet to be able to say he was wrong about it not being able to work. there are many other cases just like this in this subject. and if you can remeber back to the first of his campaign these are things he said was wrong woth President Bush.
5. Welfare reform. I admit I am not sure how Obama feels about this but this is what Mccain has said. For those people who have lost jobs the government can supplement your pay and insurance while you work at a lower paying job, long enough for you to regain your economic footing. Not only that but we can help you pay for school or training in a technological feild so you can support yourself. to me this is a much better idea then just paying unemployment. the facts of life are we will pay taxes, i would rather see my taxes going to pay for somebody to better themselves than to someone sitting at home waiting on a check.
6. Obama had promised during his run for senator to offer a tax break to the middle class in il. to date he has never brought this up in Il or in DC? Knowing this can you trust his word?
7. Charecter: Mccain was associated with some scandal dealing with 5 people, I apologize the name has slipped my mind. he admitted it and was cleared of any wrong doing.
There has been alegations that Obama associates with a known terrorist, and ACORN, these things Obama himself has not addressed nor had his aides say anything with certainty.
8. I want someone who can put political parties aside and say we are here our country needs to heal not only here but in the world community, and I think Mccain will do this, he has done this alot. Obama has never done anything to stir his party lines and thinks he can sit on the side and wait and see what the others do and then jump in. this is not what I want for my commander in cheif!!!
9. Lastly: Obama does not show where or how anything Mccain says is wrong he just calls him a liar and Old. I want substance and someone who associates with solid people. Not a politican who can look good and talk for 5 minutes at you, and then you say ok and then moments later realize he didnt answer your question.
But with all that said do your research and choose.
And as far as trying to vote third party. I am all for it in the primaries. but afterwards if a canidates did not get invited to the debates it means not enough votes were cast for this person and the likely hood of him or her even having the slightest chance is gone. so don't waste a vote. this country knows we need change. the only way to effect change is to do something that matters. voting third party in the general election right now is like trying to change the earths rotation with a ceiling fan.
7 hours ago - Edit - DeleteWhat is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?Have you ever noticed that when liberals are losing an argument, they will often resort to calling their opponent %26quot;fascist%26quot; or %26quot;nazi?%26quot;
Same goes for conservatives - whenever they start losing, they resort to calling their opponent %26quot;socialist%26quot; or %26quot;communist.%26quot;
The McCain campaign is going down swinging, but make no mistake - they are going down. Hard.
What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?For all the answers explaining socialism and how it would affect the U.S. please be advised that we are already %26quot;spreading the wealth.%26quot; The current tax code taxes the %26quot;rich%26quot; at a higher rate than the middle class. Poor people don't even pay any income taxes, and yes, some of them actually get more money back on their tax returns than they paid in form of tax credits like the %26quot;earned income credit%26quot; and the %26quot;child tax credit.%26quot;
So, you have to ask youself if you want more socialism or less?What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?Q CON
knows what he's talking about. Taking Money from the rich and giving t it the lazy and poor that don't want to work for it. Thats exactly what socialism is in this situation.What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?Obama = socialism. Do the math.
Kiss the American dream for working middle class small business owners one big good-bye.What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?Fascism opposes communism, liberalism, conservatism and international socialism.
What is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?Q Continum, that's not at all what socialism is..Try reading a book sometimeWhat is socialism and how will Obama change America, if elected president?Socialism is the government stealing money from people that have lots of it and giving it to people that have little or none of it. %26quot;liberals%26quot; (the fake liberals we have today) think that the government should do this and that poor, lazy, worthless sacks of skin that won't get a job or pump out way too many babies that they can't care for DESERVE to have everything handed to them because they won't get off their *** and get it on their own.
More socialism and a bigger, more powerful, more intrusive government are basically the only changes Obama will bring.
