If something works, why not learn from it and use it? All industrialized economies work on a system of mixed capitalism. Too far toward the 'socialist' extreme, and people lose incentive to work hard and make things better. Too far toward the 'pure lassez faire' extreme and the people with wealth and power use their advantage to cheat the system for their own short term gain and set up what is essentially a sort of neo-feudalsim (just as in the times of the robber barons).
If we have thousands of Americans dying every month from a lack of healthcare (which would be available except for a lack of funds) most people would consider that unacceptable - so why not look around to see what works elsewhere and learn from it.
