Why did america change the name of other countries?

i was just wondering why america doesn't call countries by their real names. for example, we call the country spain when in reality the name of the country is espana.Why did america change the name of other countries?Every country has their own names for other countries. The Russians call the Germans 'Neminitski' and the Japanese 'Yaponski'. And often their name for the US doesn't make much sense to us either. It's usually either a nickname of some sort (neminitski means something like 'people who don't speak') or their attempt to make the name pronounceable in the native language.Why did america change the name of other countries?As the previous posters have noted, the names of the countries we use here are in English.
