I mean Republicans or Democrats; what's the difference? If the Republicans are hardliners, how could we justify Truman's bombing Japan with the A-bomb (although she was powerless), Johnson's dashing involvement in Vietnam and Clinton's constant bombardment of Iraq?

It certainly seems that way at times -- with all the stupid things the politicians have done to this country, it's a wonder we didn't collapse fifty years ago. I think the %26quot;mysterious force%26quot; governing the entire universe is what we refer to as justice -- good consequences for a good action, negative ones for a bad one. You'll notice that when someone does something stupid life gets worse; this applies to everyone and everything. If a stupid law is created, doesn't life in the country go downhill? Similarly, the reason the late 1980s were so successful economically was that the government finally managed to figure out how to make good economic choices.

Only the high-priests amongst us may be in god's presence at the temple, a private country club. It's all about big money and getting a piece of that pie. What's the mystery? We're talking about people with big money, big enough and with enough sway to start a war or two for profit. Exxon-Mobil, seventy five billion in profit in two years. That is one company, should twenty five people in a company of thousands be making tens of millions of dollars a year in salary, perks, stock options, great health insurance and pension plan, while the vast majority of the work force does not benefit from the record breaking profits.
